Natalia or Natalya

This is our top choice if we have DD (don't know yet). I'm Polish, my DH is British. We would like a name that will reflect her heritage but is pronoucable around the world. Natalia is the original Polish spelling, Natalya would make it easier for the Brits (I think?!).

Any preferences?

Some Brits are called Claire and some are called Clare. I would t worry about it and just use the traditional spelling

Lindt70Percent · 17/05/2016 13:51

What a lovely name. I'd go for the original Polish spelling.

WreckingBallsInsideMyHead · 17/05/2016 13:57

Polish spelling would be the one I would expect so I'd say go with that

nectarini1983 · 17/05/2016 13:58

I'd go with Natalia.

LemonBreeland · 17/05/2016 13:58

Natalia looks better, and I don't imagine will cause any issues in Britain.

SoupDragon · 17/05/2016 14:01

Interestingly, I thought Natalia was the Anglicised version so I don't think you'll have any problems :)

nocoffeenouppee · 17/05/2016 14:03

Natalia is not unheard of in the UK. It shouldn't confuse people. Natalya looks like try hard 'different' spelling. Pretty choice.

flanjabelle · 17/05/2016 14:04

Polish spelling definitely.

pinkmagic1 · 17/05/2016 14:05

Yes, I also thought Natalie was the Anglicised spelling. Go for whichever spelling you prefer. It's a lovely name and congratulations.

pinkmagic1 · 17/05/2016 14:06

Natalia, should I say. Bloody autocorrect!

MrsCaecilius · 17/05/2016 14:14

Natalia. Easier for a Brit I think. I'd expect Natalya to be more of an Eastern EuropeanRussian spelling (but can see I'm wrong!)

EmmaWoodlouse · 17/05/2016 15:53

I think Natalia is actually the more usual spelling in Britain!

DramaAlpaca · 17/05/2016 16:41

I'd go with Natalia.

GoldPlatedBacon · 17/05/2016 17:56

I agree that Natalia is the 'easier' spelling for Brits. If I saw 'Natalya' I'd assume she was Russian and you'll get people pronouncing it as Nat-al-yah emphasis being on the 'y' as a Yeh sound a bit life how Katya is mistaken as Kat-ya rather than Kat-ee-ah

mrsschu · 17/05/2016 20:19

Go with Natalia, I'm sure most people will be able to pronounce it. Lovely name.

Mottled · 17/05/2016 20:36

Natalia. It is a very straightforward (and lovely) name that Brits will have no problem with. From my experience the e European names that people have difficulties understanding are J/Y names or things like wiktoria.....

EmpressOfTheSevenOceans · 17/05/2016 20:39

I thought Natalia was the Anglicised version too. It's lovely.

HouseOfBiscuits · 17/05/2016 21:18

Natalia

CPtart · 17/05/2016 21:45

Natalia. Lovely name.
Natalie was my girls' name that I never got to use.

GreenBeans17 · 18/05/2016 22:31

Natalia Smile

MiddleClassProblem · 19/05/2016 10:13

Was that unanimous?

EmpressOfTheSevenOceans · 19/05/2016 10:29

Blimey, looks like it. And in favour at that.

Is that a record?

dodobookends · 19/05/2016 10:30

Natalia definitely

Azure83 · 19/05/2016 17:09

Unanimous indeed! Thanks everyone! Goes to show - don't overthink things too much..
I bet we will have a boy now Grin

Nice choice of shortenings too.
