I've picked Eleanora as a potential name for my daughter, due in August. However, it has met with mixed responses - please tell me your honest opinions/reactions to it!

It is such a beautiful name, I would go with it. But Eleanor is beautiful too.

Love Eleanora! Eleanor is lovely too, but Eleanora has something special about it.

I like any name that can be shortened to Nell.

I've always liked Eleanor, and I do like Eleanora. I don't know why but it makes me think of a horror film, thought that doesn't put me off ha!

TheCaptainsCat · 06/05/2016 16:54

I really like it!

DancingHippo · 06/05/2016 17:51

DH wanted Eleanora for DD (now 19). At the time, I thought of Nora Batty and would it get shortened to that in the playground?

We went with Ellena (shortened to Ellie except when she pisses me off!) in the end although people often put Eleanor by mistake.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 06/05/2016 18:15

A bit fusty, I imagine a bucksome great-aunt taking no-nonsense. I love the nn Nora though! And sounds like you love it so you ought to go for it :)

GrimmauldPlace · 06/05/2016 18:20

FellOutOfBedTwice That was my first thought, too! I don't know why.

I think Eleanor is beautiful. I know one Eleanor and an Elena.

Jem01 · 06/05/2016 18:34

Love the name Eleanora!:-)

PestoSwimissimos · 06/05/2016 18:37

It's gorgeous! Use it Smile

scrivette · 06/05/2016 18:51

I really like it.

Just wanted to add that we gave DD a name that has raised many eyebrows. She's 3 now and it still happens. Usually it's the old "what an unusual name" followed by Confused But we loved the name from the start and still do. Can't imagine her being called anything else. So don't let others opinions put you off. It's definitely not a name that will get her teased or affect her later in life. If she wants, when older she can quite easily go by Eleanor or Ellie or Nora or any other combination she can think of!

dementedma · 06/05/2016 19:03

Eleanor is nicer.
Dd is an Ellen, but always called Ellie.
The French pronunciation of Eleanor is beautiful - El- AY- a - nor

1horatio · 06/05/2016 19:29

It's strong but also very feminine & enchanting :)!

Rosaaa · 07/05/2016 12:03

Never heard that name. Have heard of Eleonora though

Ludways · 07/05/2016 12:11

I like it, Nora for short. I think I'd prefer Eleanor if the Ella Ellie names weren't quite so popular nowadays.
