Jack & Daniel - too comic?

I have three boys, the first is called Jack and the next two also have classic names. We're expecting our fourth child and don't know whether they're a boy or girl, but Daniel is the only boy name I'm keen on.

I don't want our family to become people's favourite dinner party anecdote, but as I have three boys already, do you think I could get away with having a Jack and a Daniel?

I would say yes but that's only because I have a Jack and would like my bump (if a boy) to be called Daniel! It's a hard one. I was thinking that he would be called Dan and Danny a lot and just so long as I didn't call out 'Jack... Daniel' in the park it would be ok! I'll be watching the thread with interest to see what others say :)

As long as the other two aren't called Johnny and Walker I wouldn't think it was an issue

Thanks for feedback everyone. Still divided opinion on it.

I doubt anyone would pick up on it. My name rhymes with my older sisters, in fact they sound quite alike. Took 30 years until a friend pointed it out as we were very rarely referred to just together without at least one of our other siblings popping up in the middle.
My DGM also considered my initials to be rather unfortunate, again no one has ever picked up on it, but if DM had of asked on here back when I was born people probably would have said don't do it.
It took me a while to even work out what the problem was with Jack and Daniel tbh, and I'm in no way tee total.

DS3 is Daniel, it's a lovely name for s little boy.

I think they are fine .. so it is the eldest and youngest - two others in between

My brothers are Daniel and Jack - Daniel is older though so we tend to say his name first when talking about them if you know what I mean. Never an issue. I don't think people even notice to be honest and if you have 2 other boys I really can't see it being a problem. Love the name Daniel!

If you were naming twins, I'd say No to Jack and Daniel. But as they're just two of four brothers, I think it's absolutely fine. Both lovely names too.

one of our DS's in Daniel (called Dan by us, and Danny by friends) and Jack was a strong contender for his next brother.

I also know another set of brothers called Danny and Jack. They are both common enough names that the booze is not the only association.

Your thread has made me realise I have taught brothers named Jack and Daniel, though Daniel was older so saying his name first is probably why I have never noticed. They are 2 out of 4 brothers too.

Thanks for your responses! I've since found out we're expecting twins (again - eeeek) so, should one or both be boys, the two names would be even more dilute with five of them, so I think we'd go for it. Especially as I'm completely out of ideas beyond Daniel anyway.

Thank you Julfin! Non id - as with my 22 month twins. I really do if you have any good ideas!! I have no names in my head at all for a fifth boy! (Would love girls or a girl but would also be delighted with boys again, should that happen!)

So I already have Jack, Arthur and Joseph. Daniel could be one name.

Names already taken as second names or by cousins are: William, Alfred, Matthew, Joshua, James, Henry, George, Benjamin, Jacob.

I actually knew a Jack Daniels at school - that poor boy! If they were your only two, i would say a bit iffy, but as you have others it is completely fine in my opinion.

I probably wouldn't but I don't think it's a huge deal. After all it's only as a young child you are named in lists with your sibling.

Thanks for your suggestions - I'm really not drawn to any in particular though they're great names. Hopefully there's a girl in there, otherwise we'll just have to pick one 🙂
