For sylabble name to go with first 4 DC

CatInTheVat · 01/05/2016 22:07

Have name changed for this so I can share my DC's names without outing myself.

Our first four DC are:
Elizabeth (Eliza)
Dorothea (Dora)
Maximilian (Max)
Iolanthe (lo)

If it's a boy we are stuck except maybe Alexander (nn Sacha).

If it's a girl we are considering Felicity (but what nn?), Esmerelda (nn Esme) or Antonia (nn Nina).

You could shorten Ophelia to Lia or Lila.

minipie · 01/05/2016 22:53

Was going to say Nathaniel but beaten to it (it's 4 syllables if you really enunciate!)

Leonardo? (nn Leo, obv)
Taliesin (if you're Welsh)

SuburbanRhonda · 01/05/2016 22:57

Sorry have I missed why it has to be four syllables?

cherrypez · 01/05/2016 23:03

I have a Felicity...I DETEST Fliss and Flick...she is Floss Grin I adore Arabella and wanted it for dd but was vetoed.

Squashybanana · 01/05/2016 23:11

I make Maximilian 5 syllables....

Eeeek686 · 01/05/2016 23:14

Well they're not going to rename him now on your say so squashy.... Hmm

You run the ending '-ian' together to make the sound '-yan', I would say.

CatInTheVat · 01/05/2016 23:43

Yes we say "Yan"'at the end of Maximilian but of course it can be pronounced as 5 syllables.

I love Aloysius but DH vetoed that for Max. I also like Horatio but DH not convinced. Can anyone think of a good nn for Horatio? DH says "Horra"!

Suburban - it doesn't have to be four syllables but our other children all have four syllable names so it would be nice. If it's a boy I may have to go with three syllables as four is proving difficult but I am still liking Jebediah from tonight's offerings.

And with girls I love Nina. In Russia it's the traditional diminutive of Antonia but would that seem really odd over here?

Euphemia nn Effie is also going on the list.

Evangeline nn Eva/Evie?
Cecelia/Cecilia (nn Cece?) - would go really nicely with your other DC's names.
Hermione nn Hero?

I like Antonia but not sure Nina goes as well with your DC's nicknames, but it's still nice; I like it.

GoldPlatedBacon · 02/05/2016 07:49

Love Antonia. I would use Nia as a nn though.

GoldPlatedBacon · 02/05/2016 07:50

However, one of the reasons I didn't choose Antonia for my dd is that I couldn't bear a ddcalled Toni

VinceNoirLovesHowardMoon · 02/05/2016 07:58

Not sacha because in the uk sasha is a girls name. I am aware that it's used for boys in Russian but assuming the op is in the uk that's irrelevant

HeteronormativeHaybales · 02/05/2016 07:59

Archimedes is very, very cool (I'd never dare, but it's fabulous).
Sebastian and Zachariah are good.

Would you go for 3 syllables? Ferdinand, Orlando, Lucian, Florian, Benedict?

Not at all keen on Esmeralda, but Felicity and Antonia are good (like Anto or even Ant as a shortening).

HeteronormativeHaybales · 02/05/2016 08:01

Big thumbs up for Cecilia too. Could be shortened to Cece or Cecy (cf Cecy Hall of What Katy Did fame - she was good fun IIRC) and is the patron saint of music.

cece · 02/05/2016 08:02

Cece is lovely Grin

HeteronormativeHaybales · 02/05/2016 08:04

Oh, and I am loving Amadeus, and his generation shouldn't torment him with the Falco earworm (which I now duly have).

HeteronormativeHaybales · 02/05/2016 08:05

cece Grin

HeteronormativeHaybales · 02/05/2016 08:07

You sound as if you'd like Ottilie (pronounced the proper German way with enunciated final e) - Ottie or Tillie would work as shortenings.

cece · 02/05/2016 08:12

Nathaniel

Napoleon

Valentino

Immanuel

Huckleberry

Jeremiah

Bartholomew

Caligula

rainbowstardrops · 02/05/2016 08:12

I'm not keen on the nn Nina if I'm honest but I like Antonia with Nia as a nn.
How about Anastasia? It's a bit like your Maximillian in that its technically five syllables depending how you say it. Nice though.
Gabriella nice too.

I like Zebediah for a boy and think Zeb as a nn is cool. Boys names are much harder!

CatInTheVat · 02/05/2016 09:12

CeCe is very sweet and I do think it does nicely with Eliza, Dora and Io (I wish I could be differentiated from L in the MN font as Io is definitely not called Lo!).

I'm really caught on Zeb now. I know many people are suggesting Sebastian but O have an irrational aversion to Sebs since my first boyfriend was a Seb. But I suppose Zeb is rather similar and I love that.

Ray could be a nn for Horatio

pratiaalba · 02/05/2016 16:00

Lucian is two syllables in Britain!
