just that Smile Thanks.

Oh, also is Mia too short to carry well into adulthood? Does it pass the 'high court judge test'? Halo

And don't count on nicknames! Dd rejected my preferred nn for her aged 3. (Like the shortened version of her name, not the bonkers stupid nicknames I still call her and which she tolerates as an adult.) I can't make Mia work as a nn for Emily in my head, though.

They are both lovely, quite classic, inoffensive names that I would put in a similar genre. I don't think it matters which you choose but I think Mia is less commonly used at the moment - if that matters to you at all.

Sophronia · 09/04/2016 18:19

I see Isabelle as stronger and Mia as more cutesy/girly.

nectarini1983 · 09/04/2016 18:42

I don't think Mia works as a nn for Emily....2 completely different names imo. I think you could use for 2 separate children though. Emilys I know get called Em and Mia (along with Amelia) gets shortened to Mimi which I'm not a fan of. I really like he name Mia - just as it is. Can never understand giving a child a name to call them something else....just call them their name! X

Love both Isabelle and Mia, we have a DD called Mia and used Isabel for another's middle name. Think Mia pips it for me. I still love saying & hearing it - not that we call her Mia oh no it's miamoo, the Mooster or just plain Moo!!! I imagine this will stop when she's bigger starts complaining. DH liked Mia and thought the nickname Mimi could be used, it just hasn't stuck.

Mia. It was the name I had for my angel baby. Very sweet classy feminine and elegant.
Isobelle is lovely, but it's been done to death.

OreoHeaven · 09/04/2016 19:23

Neither.

mrsschu · 09/04/2016 19:29

Mia doesn't work as a nn for Emily. To be honest Emily is nice but dull and I know a million of them. I prefer Isobel to Isabelle and prefer both to Mia if that makes sense! They all pass the high court judge test!

Chinks123 · 09/04/2016 20:56

No Mia is not a nn for Emily, I know an Amelia who gets Mia though. I am biased as DD is Mia. She always gets called my-a at the doctors for some reason..even though I've never seen that pronunciation spelt that way Hmm

Isabella or Emily gets my vote

septembersunshine · 10/04/2016 15:43

Mia I think. It sounds so light and upbeat. Cute (for all ages!).

Isabelle is fine but I find it's just everywhere. I am almost sick of it (even though it's one of my dd's middle names!). However I do like the fact there are nicknames here - Izzy/Belle so that's appealing (or not appealing depending on what you want). Mia will always be Mia. And it's perfect :)

ABitAsleep · 11/04/2016 12:31

Isabelle (and all it's variations) seem very popular right now. Every other post i see on here has an Isabelle on their list. I can tell you from experience that being one of several kids with your name at school really sucks (just wait for the Isabelle A, Isabelle T, etc...or even worse, Big Isabelle or Little Isabelle!!!) Plus it will almost definitly be shortened to Izzy/Belle/Etc, if that bothers you.

I only know a 20yo Mia. She is strong and capable and suits the name well. I like it. It's not too popular. It can't really be shortened. However you might get the Mia or Maia pronounciation thing which may be frustrating especially since it is obvious!

Plus Mia and Emily go well together :)

ABitAsleep · 11/04/2016 12:32

Sorry, Mia and Emily go well together for siblings, but Mia is not does not work as a nn for Emily.

Naughty1205 · 11/04/2016 12:39

Our dd is Mia, which means 'longed for child', after IVF. Some people if they forget call her my-a but we just say it's mee-a. Doesn't happen a lot. I love the name.

pilates · 11/04/2016 14:09

Isabelle

eatmytoes888 · 11/04/2016 14:43

Isabelle/Isabella/Isobel/Isabel.... just way way too many. It's a really beautiful name but we have to add surnames just to work out which one we're talking about or to. Overdone completely. Mia is not to my taste personally but seems well received.

eilzyxo · 12/04/2016 22:29

Isabelle

CradleCrapNap · 16/04/2016 21:11

I have an Isabelle and my sister has a Mia. I love both so am probably no help at all! Go with your gut feeling.
