How would you pronounce...

Liselotte?

It's German - I live in Germany, married to a German and am wondering if dd would have a nightmare telling people how to pronounce it all the time if we ever moved back to the UK... (and for that matter if anyone would know how to pronounce it when we announce her birth via email!)

Thank you! Grin

Liz-eh-lot? I must admit I don't know, that's just hazarding a guess! I would have thought most people in UK would ask how to pronounce based on that spelling.

Bogburglar99 · 04/04/2016 11:00

LEES-uh-LOTT-uh (trying to think how to represent a voiced final e.

Beautiful name. I would have thought the chances of it becoming either Lizzie or Lottie in the UK are relatively high if that is a problem.

Fauchelevent · 04/04/2016 11:01

Leezeh-lotteh?

Sophronia · 04/04/2016 11:02

Lee-zeh-lot-eh

SugarDiabetes · 04/04/2016 11:03

LEES-uh-LOTT-uh

SoupDragon · 04/04/2016 11:03

Pretty much like the others Leeza Lottee or Leeza lotta

MadameDePompom · 04/04/2016 11:03

Leesa-lotta?

GingerLeaves · 04/04/2016 11:07

The same as everyone else... I don't think it's particularly clear - I wouldn't be surprised if you told me that it's pronounced completely different!

bingeddybongo · 04/04/2016 11:11

Hurrah! (And wow you're all high speed!) You've basically all got it right Grin - Leez-ah Lott-ah - which makes me very happy as I wasn't expecting that at all! Thank you all very much Smile

Yup, I would have pronounced it the way you said.

It's lovely, btw.

ThinkingAboutNumber2 · 04/04/2016 11:16

I'd say Lisa-lot before I knew it was German, in which case I'd have said Lisa-Lotta.

bingeddybongo · 04/04/2016 11:18

Thank you Smile

Leezl-lotuh beautiful name!

ABitAsleep · 04/04/2016 11:31

Leisel - lot

DramaAlpaca · 04/04/2016 11:33

I'd pronounce it like you say it, OP.

LifeCrossRoad · 04/04/2016 11:34

I'd pronounce it however you told me it was pronounced, you won't have to tell people more than once usually.
It's a lovely name. I have to tell people how to pronounce my name all the time, and it's helped me never hindered me. The weird MN status who seems to be that people in life will be hard done by having to spell/pronounce their names. Whereas for me it's been the opposite

Like all names it will sound slightly different when said outside of its native land.

'The weird MN status who seems to be that people in life will be hard done by having to spell/pronounce their names. Whereas for me it's been the opposite'

It's not a 'weird' MN thing. Some people find it irritating being asked to spell their name five times a day whereas others won't find this at all irritating.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 04/04/2016 12:18

Leez-a-lotta

bingeddybongo · 04/04/2016 13:01

Thank you everyone! (and I'm rubbish at spelling things phonetically so I totally agree with you VocationalGoat - it's a name from my husband's family Smile).

This is like a massively amazing explosion of Elizabeth and Charlotte - my 2 favourite names! Love love love it. Great thinking, OP Grin

Because of this thread I've been humming 'I am Sixteen' for the past hour and trying to remember (without googling) the name of Liesl's horrible boyfriend. I can't decide if he was Fritz or Ralf.

Hrafnkel · 04/04/2016 13:39

Lieselotte was the name of the main girl character in our German textbooks.
