Jemima - your thoughts please!

We've finally decided on a name for our third DD. Shamefully, it was partly the utterly delicious Tom Hiddleston in The Night Manager who inspired it, and sadly not everyone who uses her name will be a tall gorgeous posh man with a sexy voice.

But I still love it, and it's the first name we've both agreed on and it feels right. So we're going with it, but I was just interested in hearing opinions.

Middle name is probably going to be Pearl but that may change.

It's my daughters name. So I love it. But it's not amuslim name I think it's Jewish and my Muslim MIL hates it so much she will not even use it!! ( I have the mil from hell so NC and don't care)

I don't like it. When I was a kid my grandma used to bring home Aunt Jemima maple syrup from the US so all I see is a syrup bottle when someone says Jemima... It sounds slightly silly as a name to me.

It's not even real maple syrup, it's cheap fake maple syrup. So the name wouldn't appeal to me, it's too closely associated with the brand in my mind.

I like it, it's a pretty name.

I enjoyed the Night Manager, but still think of Jed as a boys name, either in its own right or as a nickname for Jedediah.

I'm not particularly keen on Jemima but it does sound good with Pearl as a middle name.

I think Playschool when I hear Jemima. Personally, I find it a bit wet.

choli That's completely right, it wasn't real maple syrup!!!! (Although when I was a kid in the 80's in Ireland I'm sure I didn't know the difference Grin).

My 2 week old little girl is Jemima, we call her puddle duck !!
She really suits her name.
We love it as it's not common here but not too out there !

I love it and I know quite a few little Jemimas. I suppose they are all at least on the posh side of average though!

However, when you say you aren't in the UK ... don't use it if you're in the US. Apparently it's a racist name there and almost never used. I have no idea why, just something I've heard.

It makes me think of the Welsh heroine Jemima Nicholas: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jemima_Nicholas

It is actually because the Aunt Jemima syrup - their logo used to be a middle aged African American woman based on racist stereotypes.

I love it. I would happily have called DD Jemima. Sadly DH doesn't share my love.

I know to three Jemima and none of them are posh or wet. To me it's a bouncy name.

It's a lovely name! On a different note, I didn't realise that was the girls name in the night manager, I kept getting viruses about why she was called Jed by some & Jem by others. she was so stunning, I developed a bit of a girl crush

Brienne I had a major girl crush too - however one onscreen can eclipse Hiddleston for me. I wouldn't mind but I only saw the last episode!

wally I'm so sorry to hear about your sister. How terrible to lose someone so wonderful, so young.

Everyone, thank you for the comments. I know we have already decided but I'm glad that it's not likely to be met with a series of sideways looks when we introduce her (she's the one who'll have to live with it after all).

Puddleduck. I don't think it's pretty, I do think it's posh though.
I live in Ireland though so I would be very surprised to meet a Jemima here!

Puddleduck didn't even cross my mind. Jemima to me is either syrup, or the sweet little blonde girl from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Lovely name though, your daughter will own it and associations won't be relevant.
