Welsh Girls Name Needed.

I'm in need of a name for DD2 due in July and me and DH can't seem to agree on any so far. I thought I'd seen them all but there might be something I'm missing.

It needs to be Welsh, not to difficult to pronounce, I can't roll my R's and sometimes struggle with the dd (th) sound, not always though. DH is the Welsh one, not me.

DD1 is Celyn but I don't want a rhymey name for DD2 so that makes it even more difficult. Our surname is H, so I don't really want a H name either.

I love Erin but it's too close to Celyn. I like Ffion, Nia and Gwen but DH seems to like the more 'out there' names. I can't even remember how to pronounce his current favourite, it was a bit like Gwyneth, but more of a mouth full.

We both like Meri, but wondering if there is something else.

My head is puddled. Please help :)

Anwen
Lowri
Mair
Angharad
Carys
Nansi
Sian

All names of girls I know (I live in a not very Welsh part of Wales)
I adore the name celyn btw, I only know one and she's fab!

ASpiderInThebath · 31/03/2016 20:34

What about?
Alys (pronounced like the English Alice. Beautiful name. Sorry I can't remember if you said that you're living in Wales or that your Dh is Welsh and you're living in England. Only reason I mention that is that if you're in England people might pronounce it Al-ees instead and you/she would have to correct them).

Rhiannon
Elinor (Welsh spelling of Eleanor, pronounced the same).
Or Elin
Cariad
Anwen
Arian
Fflur

Hmmmm, what could I suggest... Wink

Imps9 · 01/04/2016 05:30

I knew a Cariad once (nn Carrie) which I think means "beloved". Always thought that was a lovely name.

I also love Seren. Although come to think of it, I don't know if that's a Welsh name.

Imps9 · 01/04/2016 05:33

Oh, just read back properly - Seren does appear to be a Welsh name and in fact both have already been suggested! Not that helpful, sorry!

CleverPlansAndSecretTricks · 01/04/2016 05:48

Mairwen
Lowri
Gaynor
Angharad
Bethan

I always found it much harder to think of Welsh girls names I like than boys names for some reason

Polyannatunnel · 01/04/2016 06:12

Tirion

Polyannatunnel · 01/04/2016 06:14

Lleuci.

IdaShaggim · 01/04/2016 06:46

The only one I know is spelled 'Lleucu'... Lovely name, but not easy to pronounce for the non-Welsh!!

OP, I would second something like Sian or Sioned... Lovely names, easy to pronounce once you know how.

I live in very Welsh Wales, and know lots of all of the names above! But there are also 'Welshified' names such as Beca and Cari being used locally, which haven't been mentioned yet... Thought I would give you those options to consider too!

Cerseirys · 01/04/2016 07:12

Eleri

I know a little girl called Angharad,it's sounds so sweet on her.

BitOutOfPractice · 01/04/2016 07:47

I knew a lovely woman called Lynfa

BitOutOfPractice · 01/04/2016 07:51

I've read the thread and goodness me these names being suggested are GORGEOUS

LostInTheColonies · 01/04/2016 07:53

Menna

Aiwo · 01/04/2016 10:03

Cariad as a name would be strange.
Especially if you live in Wales/ interact with Welsh people a lot.

I bought milk the other day and the lady called me Cariad.
It's a term of effection

I'm not sure I can think of other names that haven't been suggested without using LL or DD

WellErrr · 01/04/2016 10:08

Agree Aiwo. Like calling a child Darling or Sweetheart.

Good name for a child's pony but not much else....!

Stiddleficks · 01/04/2016 10:12

Rhian is the best Welsh name cos it's mine Grin

hollyisalovelyname · 01/04/2016 15:08

Eleri ( first choice)
Carys
or
Seren
would be my choices.
Seren sounds like serene, a lovely calm, gentle image.

babymakesfive · 01/04/2016 18:55

I love Seren

notagiraffe · 01/04/2016 18:56

Seren is one of the most beautiful names I've ever heard, and it's Welsh, I think.

WhattaMunter · 01/04/2016 20:52

Cari is a name used, derived from love.

It means 'to love' and is a lovely and gentle name.

Cari Haf.

Gorgeous!

YourBubzYourRulzHun · 02/04/2016 18:30

stiddleficks mine too Grin

PickleBot · 02/04/2016 19:52

Interesting about Alys being pronounced as Alice; my gran was Cornish and an Alys but pronounced A-liss.
