Boys name after two ´royal´ girls´ names

DH is PT so we are looking for an international name. DDs both have names that were used in the past by PT/UK queens. Perfectly pronounceable at both ends and not too ethnic. Boys names prove to be much more difficult. Do not want a clear PT name (Joao, Henrique, Antonio, Luis etc.). But what then?
Am afraid that Alexander is too popular in our area and we want to avoid a bias to one side of the family (so no George, Henry, William, James, Oliver etc. either).
It appears that there is so much more choice for girls: we could easily have settled for Eleonore, Catherine, Carolina, Helena, Joanna, Charlotte etc. What are the alternatives for boys?!

Stephen is a King's name but totally underused.

Edward?

Carolndaryl · 29/03/2016 11:47

Was going to ask the same! Is it Portuguese?

If so how about Daniel?

KingJoffreyLikesJaffaCakes · 29/03/2016 11:48

Jonathan is also lovely but underused.

Carolndaryl · 29/03/2016 11:49

Have you consulted the 'official list' of Portuguese names? Daniel one of the few international ones. Agree much harder for boys!

I'm afraid your only option is Denis.

Portuguese...the farmer/poet king of 12th C fame.

English - the footballer Denis Law. Known as 'The King' (at least to himself).

After extensive Googling ( I looked at the first FOUR links), I can pronounce confidently that this is the ONLY name that fits your criteria, and you may as well order the personalised blankets now.

Luke/Lucas?

Voteforpedr0 · 29/03/2016 13:07

James or christian

Thanks you all! I´m not too keen on the biblical names (we´re not religious) and unfortunately some of the names we cannot use as they are already used in his family. I like Leo, Hugo, Lucas and Ruben, but do you think they fall in the same group as our DDs with their royalty-inspired names? I like Leo, but should we then go for Leonardo (DDs also have 3-4 syllables)?

Leonardo is lovely

centigrade451 · 29/03/2016 17:39

There have been a few King Leopolds in Belgium and a the odd German state. So Leo can still be considered a royal name.

Leonardo is clearly Italian and it is a bit silly to not want a clearly Portuguese name and go for an Italian one!

There have been no Kings called Rubens/Hugo etc.

Also Ruben is a very biblical and also jewish name.

Denis is a Portugese royal name - so it is an option.

Sophronia · 29/03/2016 17:43

Leonardo is the Portuguese form of Leonard, as well as the Italian one.

Artandco · 29/03/2016 17:51

Emilio
Tomas
Leonardo
Leopoldo
Maximilian
Valentim
