popularity of Violet?

I'm due a baby girl in July and have already decided on the name Violet. I keep googling and can't tell how popular it is? It seems to be in the top 100 but I've never known of any!

Have you met or do you know any little Violets? Would you say it's popular or not so? I don't mind but would prefer it if it wasn't too popular or on the rise! Thanks

Also do you think Mae is a good middle name?

Thanks for all the comments Smile another option for middle name is Eleanor. Was between the two originally but liked Mae as shorter. Eleanor is my sisters name and were very close, in fact my niece has my name as a middle Smile Violet Eleanor?

Thanks JW! I was hoping to use Grace as middle name but had no idea until reading here its considered a dull "filler" name?!
Violet Eleanor is lovely, especially with family connection.

I know a fair few young Violets, its popular without being too popular. Mae on the other hand is.

I agree with whoever said it was this generation's filler name - every other little girl has Mae/May, Grace or Rose as a middle name. Just like girls in the 1970s all having 'Louise' (I know, I am one). Eleanor though is lovely!

www.behindthename.com/name/violet/top/england-wales - Seems to have been #71 in 2014.

I think Violet Eleanor sounds lovely Smile

Lovely

I know of one and she is only about 2 months old my great nan was called Violet also. I'm due a girl but in september. Violet will most likely be her middle name after my great nan.

I know a Violet in her 30s and a newborn Violet.

My friends gran was name Violet and she NN'd her Violent as a joke.

BugPlaster · 31/03/2016 03:34

I have met at least 5 under the age of 5.

SoThatHappened · 31/03/2016 03:34

How about Viola as an alternative?

LemonLuLu · 31/03/2016 11:56

LOVE it. Violet is fab. There's one in DC's school and I had a great aunt Violet.

shockwaves · 31/03/2016 12:48

I don't know any! I really like it Smile

I prefer May...

Violet May is gorgeous!

Mae is fine though Smile

LemonBreeland · 31/03/2016 12:52

I know a baby Violet. Eleanor is a million times better than Mae as a middle name. I think filler middle names are a waste of time. A middle name should mean something or people just shouldn't bother.

shockwaves · 31/03/2016 12:57

Well, I prefer Violet May/Mae... To Violet Eleanor, but I'm one of those people that like those 'filler names' Hmm I've never been fussed if they're family names, but that's just me. I'd rather their name sounded nice, but I know people want to remember someone through their child's name Hmm

I work at a pre-school and have dc's ranging from 25 to 13 and have never come across one at all, I love it and if I had had another DD would have used it Smile,
