I dislike it. To me it is not a strong name.

I don't like it but it should be spelt Molly.

IoraRua · 23/03/2016 11:41

I dislike, it's a bit bland and meek I think. Apologies to any Mollies out there!

Spandexpants007 · 23/03/2016 11:45

Molly. Love Moll

BeefLasagneForMyTea · 23/03/2016 12:13

Molly is a gorgeous name.

MadameDePompom · 23/03/2016 12:28

Any Molly I've known has been a formidable matriarch, so the opposite of bland and meek to me!

UntilTheCowsComeHome · 23/03/2016 12:32

Molly is a lovely name.

Our cat was Molly as is my friend's dog.

I know a Mollie but lots of the family roll their eyes at the spelling. Mum was trying to be yoonique.

cornishglos · 23/03/2016 12:37

Marguerite is a daisy - same flower. Not weird to have Daisy as nn for Margaret.

OK name but definitely not "timeless." Hardly anyone was called Molly from early 20th century until the 90s or so.

centigrade451 · 24/03/2016 15:25

Molly derives from Mary. I think it is a boring name - far too popular to have an uniqueness any more.

There are two Mollys in the class of DS2 and one Molly in DS1.

LightTurquoise · 24/03/2016 15:26

But how many names are actually nice and unique? At least one other person will have your name, I don't believe any name is unique.

OP posts:
Floggingmolly · 24/03/2016 15:28

If a name is truly unique, it's because it is so truly, spectacularly shite that nobody in their right mind would copy it. Molly is a fine name, it doesn't matter that she won't be the only one.

stumblymonkey · 24/03/2016 15:37

My friend's DD is Molly. I really wasn't keen when I first heard it but it's really grown on me.

I'm just not sure I can picture a Molly as a grown woman though but that's probably just me!

NeedACleverNN · 26/03/2016 19:20

I love Molly totally biased as that is Dd name

JoJoS123 · 26/03/2016 19:25

I like Molly/Mollie Smile I like both spellings!

FoxesSitOnBoxes · 26/03/2016 19:29

I've got a Mollie. Grin at whoever said that is me trying to be younique! I just thought it looked prettier like that.....
Anyway there are quite a few where we are in NI but I really love it still and my name was pretty popular when I was growing up and that didn't bother me.

marmiteloversunite · 26/03/2016 19:29

I have a Molly and a Daisy!! We always joke if we'd had any more they would be Dolly and Maisy to complete the set! Not that we are having any more!!!

JoJoS123 · 26/03/2016 19:33

I do agree, Mollie looks prettier!

kaymondo · 26/03/2016 19:53

It's a nice name but always makes a small girl spring to mind rather than a woman (which is silly as all the little Molly's must grow up!)

I do prefer the Molly spelling - not at all keen with the current fashion of switching traditional y names to ie, like Mollie, Hollie, Emilie, Lucie etc.

FoxesSitOnBoxes · 27/03/2016 02:36

(Over invested now) actually I think the Mollie spelling is the original from the Gaelic Maille and used to be the more common spelling back in the 1900s. So actually Molly is the "current fashion"
(Not that it matters OP, both are fine!)

Baz13 · 27/03/2016 08:03

I love the name Molly and prefer this spelling. My cousin is called Molly she's 18 and wears the name well.

Mollie is fine as well, however I think if you went with this spelling she would have to say with 'ie' at the end. But that wouldn't take people long to get to grips with.

FilthyRascal · 27/03/2016 08:10

I'm not keen, I agree it doesn't sound "strong". Lovely for a little girl but doesn't sound like a very adult name.

I do also know quite a few dogs called Molly - it seems quite a popular doggy name! which wouldn't particularly bother me but might bother you?
