Maddie makes me think of someone mad, sorry.

LightTurquoise · 21/03/2016 17:25

I really like it. I also like Madeleine (or any other spelling) Smile

mrsschu · 21/03/2016 18:23

Not keen but I quite like Madeleine.

winkygirl · 21/03/2016 19:11

My DD is a Madeleine nn Maddie. I think it is a lovely name (obvs!) I chose it because it is beautiful and traditional and not too common.

Madison also isn't that common and is also nice (IMO)
I would say it is trendy and modern but still girly.

pilates · 21/03/2016 20:31

Dislike Madison but Madeline is nice.

purplepopple · 21/03/2016 20:54

I like it, it's different but not "try too hard"!

Floggingmolly · 21/03/2016 20:55

Yes, I like it. Much nicer than Madeleine.

NadiaWadia · 22/03/2016 04:24

It's OK but Madeleine is much classier and absolutely beautiful.

Eminybob · 22/03/2016 04:29

I like it, although I prefer Madeleine. Does make me think of Madison the mermaid though.

WhittlingIhopMonkey · 22/03/2016 05:44

Not a fan. I think its getting quite common and i personally associate it with kids that are a bit rough. And Maddie is worse again .

BitOutOfPractice · 22/03/2016 05:56

I much much prefer Madeleine for the nn Maddie.

Madison is a bit 90s to me.

TippyTappyLappyToppy · 22/03/2016 06:01

I don't really like it, it's a bit chavvy (sorry but it is) and it's also quite dated it now. It was very faddy in the nineties and noughties as I remember, then sort of dropped off a cliff in popularity as these modern names tend to do after about ten years and become a bit naff.

If you like Maddie then Madeleine is much classier.

Madison is truely awful - Madeleine is lovely though.

AppleSetsSail · 22/03/2016 06:29

It's definitely a stripper name in the US. Sorry. I don't know any Madisons in the UK.

dontbreathesomedays · 22/03/2016 06:39

I'm not as keen on Madeleine but I like Madeline.

I hate it. Will be very dated in 10 years. Madeleine is nice though, or Megan, Polly, Libby etc

happystory · 22/03/2016 06:56

It was a nightclub I used to go to in the Eighties

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 22/03/2016 06:56

Don't like at all, but Madeleine/ Magdalen is nice.

BitOutOfPractice · 22/03/2016 07:52

If you use madeline it'll be constantly misspelled

LightTurquoise · 22/03/2016 08:08

My niece is Madeleine and it always gets Madeline - so that isn't true. Madeline is the 'English Alternative'

LightTurquoise · 22/03/2016 08:13

FYI, OP - I prefer the Madeline spelling

BitOutOfPractice · 22/03/2016 08:29

Well everyone on this thread has spelled it Madeleine (including my phone) so people will misspell it regularly

LightTurquoise · 22/03/2016 09:43

I find that people on Mumsnet tend to always like the original - they like the original Irish names, French names, etc.

In day to day life, people go for the most common/English alternative, in my area.

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 22/03/2016 10:17

I'm just not keen on surname-names and place-names - I know it's not necessarily logical and there's no rationale for it particularly, but names I dislike tend to fall into that category. Unless they fall into other categories Wink

But I also think Madison is actually already a bit dated.
