Aw I know a lovely Reuben. We call him Reubs.

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 16/03/2016 20:51

I have a ten year old Reuben, but he is a cat.

Lived in the states for a while which ruins it for me - I can't take it off the sandwich board! (And I prefer straight up pastrami on rye.) But if he's not intending to live in New York or any other state over the pond then I think it's a nice name.

I know a little Ruben, spelt like that Smile

Petradreaming · 16/03/2016 21:40

I have a nephew named Ruben. He's a bit of a dude... Suits his name.. Rubes as a nickname. He is 15.

I know of 3 (NE Scotland), all under 3. I wouldn't assume any particular religion. It's becoming more popular but I doubt it's so popular it would take anything away from its loveliness.

There's a Spanish spelling -Ruben and a Hebrew spelling-Reuben.

Rueben is wrong though (glares at MIL)

CordeliaFrost · 17/03/2016 11:15

My dad is Reuben - well officially he's Reuven (the Hebrew form) - but he goes by Reuben as it's easier.

When we first moved to the UK (from the U.S., where my dad is originally from), he found people would react with pleasant surprise to his name, but these days he often hears "oh my son/nephew/next-door neighbour's niece's son is called Reuben," so it's definitely more popular than it was 28 years ago.

Which is a good thing. As it's a lovely name, but I would say that.

CordeliaFrost · 17/03/2016 11:16

LovelyBranches - seeing it misspelt as Rueben makes me very sad, as does seeing Isaac misspelt as Issac.

AnotherUsernameBitesTheDust · 18/03/2016 00:27

I have a Reuben. He's 11 and he enjoys Reuben sandwiches or bagels.

We are not Jewish, he's the only one in his school (so far)

I call him Roo for short, no one else has shortened his name.

Trickydecision · 18/03/2016 06:18

I've got a Reuben , he is 43 and it used to be a very rare name.Roo for short.
I am not happy with its increasing popularity. We are not Jewish but prefer biblical nanes, we also have a Daniel.
