Sylvester

Dp suggested this and I'm not entirely sure if he was being serious or not. But just wondered what other people thought. I laughed at first but it's since grown on me exponentially. I've discovered that Sully was a popular nickne for Sylvester when it was a commonplace name, which makes it all the more appealing.

Not for me.

Destinysdaughter · 12/03/2016 23:32

The Cat?

You make me feel mighty real?

The weird TV presenter?

Just off the top of my head.

Not a great choice OP - tell your DH

Strokethefurrywall · 12/03/2016 23:33

I love the name Sylvester personally, I have a Sullivan and his nickname is Sully. Or Van as he calls himself due to being 2 and unable to say his own name!!

MitzyLeFrouf · 13/03/2016 01:28

No.

MrsLeighHalfpenny · 13/03/2016 01:52

Also No. With a capital N.

Shemozzle · 13/03/2016 01:59

strokethefurrywall (great film btw) the idea of having a Sully is now so appealing that I've really warmed to Sullivan too.

Those that are stating an outright no, do you mind giving me a few of your favourites? Everyone is so different and I just think I'm better having the opinion of people who think similarly to me.

Sylvester McCoy

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sylvester_McCoy

Destinysdaughter · 13/03/2016 02:11

However you're probably much younger than me so these cultural references don't mean much to you!

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 13/03/2016 02:44

It's a no from me, sorry

SleepyRoo · 13/03/2016 02:47

Stallone

ThirtyNineWeeks · 13/03/2016 03:00

Love it.

Out2pasture · 13/03/2016 03:03

it's interesting
the only Sylvester I know would be S. Stallone so not a bad connection at all :)
I would consider it depending on the last name and those of siblings etc.

mrsschu · 13/03/2016 08:46

Sylvester the cat or Sylvester Stallone. I'd fine it hard to take someone with the name Sylvester seriously. So a big no from me.

DontKillMyVibe · 13/03/2016 09:06

No to Slyvester. Awful.

Love Sullivan though!

MamaLazarou · 13/03/2016 10:57

Sylvester is a lovely name.... For a cat.

SwedishEdith · 13/03/2016 11:09

I did lol when read the tread title.

MagpieCursedTea · 13/03/2016 12:47

I like it but Sylvester McCoy is my favourite doctor so that might be influencing me.

cheesylover · 15/03/2016 09:15

I love it but wouldn't dare use it (especially as our surname begins with S, he would really sound like a cartoon character!). I like the nn Sully and love the meaning behind Sylvester - think it's "of the forest"?

mollie123 · 15/03/2016 09:21

diminutives of Sylvester - Sly and Fester/Vester Hmm
I would see 'Sully' as a diminutive of Sullivan (which I do like Smile)

OneMagnumisneverenough · 15/03/2016 13:45

I like it, I know one in his early teens. Lovely boy. He is always Sylvester though. It doesn't get shortened.

Nataleejah · 15/03/2016 13:57

Sorry but horrible

Coldtoeswarmheart · 15/03/2016 19:00

Blimey. No.
