For a boy, what do you think of these names

Love them both! Esp Ike! Great name.

PerettiChelsea · 11/03/2016 09:40

I like it too but you don't think it's too much like oik?!

I hear ike, I think turner, and he was a nasty man. Not keen on it as a word/name either. Cary is much nicer, friendlier.

CrystalMcPistol · 11/03/2016 10:21

I prefer Isaac/Ike

Cary will get mistaken for Carrie.

stumblymonkey · 11/03/2016 10:26

I LOVE Cary as in Cary Grant.

I'm a big fan of old Hollywood names though...I called my cat Chester which is another of my fave boy's names.

Not a fan of Ike....I don't like the sound of it, it sounds quite harsh and makes me think of a bully, perhaps because of Ike Turner who was vile.

Sophronia · 11/03/2016 10:47

I love Cary. It reminds me of Cary Grant too.

Ike I prefer short for Isaac.

3luckystars · 11/03/2016 11:08

Do you like Kal?

PerettiChelsea · 11/03/2016 12:16

Not really, that seems like it might be short for Calvin which I don't like.

Is it not ok to name a boy the same as someone who was horrible? Surely he'll take on his own identity?

3luckystars · 11/03/2016 12:29

The reason I asked about Kal is because my friend had similar names on her list to you, and she loved Kal! She went with a different name in the end because when the baby was born he looked like an old man :)

I thought Ike Turner too, but I just googled him and he was named "Izear" so its ok!

MissTessmacher · 11/03/2016 12:31

Cary is great.

Ike is awful.

RockUnit · 11/03/2016 13:18

Cary

Diddlydokey · 11/03/2016 13:20

Just don't use both. I immediately thought of the Blue Peter pets Kara & Oke

MadameDePompom · 11/03/2016 13:20

Ike.

Sofiria · 11/03/2016 13:41

Cary.

I don't mind Ike as a nickname for Isaac. It seems too insubstantial on its own.

Raahh · 11/03/2016 16:56

Ike is brilliant- was going to be dd2's name ( short for Isaac though, had she been a boy).

Ike is now our dog's name.Grin I love it.

Not keen on Cary, regardless of Cary Grant, it sounds like a girls name to me. also there is a Carrie Grant who crops up on TV from time to time (more often than Mr Grant dies these days). Better than Archibald though Smile

Raahh · 11/03/2016 16:56

Does- unfortunate auto correct there.

PerettiChelsea · 11/03/2016 17:20

I like Ike a lot, but bear in mind that most people's association with the name will be Ike Turner. Although he was a musical genius (pretty much invented guitar distortion) he was a thoroughly unpleasant character.

Raahh · 11/03/2016 20:33

I think there are issues with both names, although I love Ike, and the only person who commented when I mooted it for dd2 referenced Eisenhower. ( Who was actually David...). My first thought was Ike Godsey from the Walton's GrinGrin

Cary sounds very feminine, and there are a lot of Keira/Kyra type names around at the moment.

But I am totally biased towards Ike anyway Grin

SirChenjin · 11/03/2016 20:36

Cary is too similar to Carrie or Carey Mulligan and Ike was just a nasty piece of work.

Short answer - neither!

HarlettOScara · 11/03/2016 20:38

I used to work with a man called Cary and people calling always assumed he was female.

DafferDill · 11/03/2016 21:09

I thought of Ike Turner too, or the noise someone would make if they touched something hot.

DafferDill · 11/03/2016 21:10

Cary is very feminine. I used to think Cary Grant was a woman!

sooperdooper · 11/03/2016 21:11

Sorry but my first thought was Ike Turner, I've never heard the name apart from that and it's given it dark connotations for me

RockUnit · 11/03/2016 21:18

Have to say I thought of David Icke.
