What did you name your DC?

Very much light hearted of course.. No offence intended towards non lefties or their dc's names, I'm just

A) nosey
and
B) looking for inspiration for names that my (very lefty) dp might not veto.

Thanks and please don't flame me!

Rosa.

Not because of the Parks connotations but in retrospect I love that about her name.

I'd name any more Aneurin /Aneira or Taliesin (Tal). But mainly cos I'm Welsh and I love those names.

Sadik · 09/03/2016 11:24

I'm a leftie, but I must admit dd shares a name with an (in)famous empress.

However, names others I know have used:
Gerard (for Gerard Winstanley)
Kett (for Kett's rebellion)
Rosa (Parks/Luxembourg)

OneMagnumisneverenough · 09/03/2016 11:34

Didn't the Pankhursts, well Emmeline maybe, join the Tory party at some point or am I completely confused?

RainOnTheRoof · 09/03/2016 11:39

I think I qualify as a big fat leftie! We just gave our children names we loved. My aim was not too popular, reasonably international and no class associations (not all of our names actually meet all 3 criteria). In the end one of my children has a very Scottish name (we are Scottish), one a Hebrew name and one a Greek name (the latter 2 both in general use in the UK). Family middle names. No particular left-wing connotations.

NameChange30 · 09/03/2016 11:46

Most/all of my friends are lefties. Most have picked pretty classic names. The really lefty ones have picked unisex and/or unusual names.

How about seeing if any politicians, philosophers or writers you admire have names you like?

What a strange post Confused

WhiteHairReally · 09/03/2016 12:29

Sylvia Pankhurst split with her mother and sister and was a socialist and for a while a communist.
Her name was actually Estelle Sylvia.

albertcampionscat · 09/03/2016 13:20

Christabel (Pankhurst) or Jessica (Decca) Mitford or Rosa (Luxemburg) or Clement (Attlee)

Marcipex · 09/03/2016 23:31

I thought you meant left-handed Confused Blush

I'm a big fat lefty and we have a Frida. DP vetoed Emmeline.

EllenTheEgret · 10/03/2016 18:10

Thanks all - that's definitely thrown up some new ideas.

Frida is a lovely name!

BikeRunSki · 12/03/2016 18:03

Big fat lefty here, but DC not named after political heroes.

StepAwayFromTheThesaurus · 12/03/2016 19:09

I guess it depends on how left you want to go?

Fidel?
Vladimir?
Joseph?
Kim?

gunting · 12/03/2016 19:10

Joel

unlimiteddilutingjuice · 12/03/2016 19:19

I am a big fat lefty, with 2 little lefties, both with lefty names:
Jimmy after Jimmy Reid.
Kirsty as a nod to the scottish referendum campaign (centred on a fictional Kirsty born into a new scotland)

Other lefty kids names Im aware of:
Two sisters with middle names Sacco and Vancetti Shock
Too many Rosa's!
An actual Karl (far too obvious!)
An entire commune who all gave their kids the surname Wilde.
A Nye

OneMagnumisneverenough · 12/03/2016 19:21

Hmm, but the SNP aren't lefty unlimited so i don't get the connection with the independence and leftism.

Love the name though :)

unlimiteddilutingjuice · 12/03/2016 19:33

"i don't get the connection with the independence and leftism."

You cant have been in Glasgow over the indyref period then! All the left was for independence and made up a significant part of the movement. A lot of lefties joined the SNP- similar to the influx of English Lefties into Labour with Corbyn.

Trust me- its a thing.

RhinestoneCowgirl · 12/03/2016 19:39

One of my brothers is named after Clement Attlee.

I am a lefty but I just chose names I liked.

TinySombrero · 12/03/2016 19:42

I really wanted a Clement.
