Jaycee

Not sure if I should use Jaycee as full name as DH thinks it sounds "common" but we have no ideas what to use as the full name to get Jacyee as a NN. Any longer name suggestions or opinions on Jaycee?

Sorry, really don't mean to sound impolite, but in the interests of accuracy:

Usually, the Latin for 'rejoice' is 'gaudete' .

The Latin for blind (adjective, masculine) is 'caecus' - there was a Roman family name 'Caecilius' which was based on that word; the modern name Cecilia is derived from that and Cee might be a nickname, I suppose, but 'Cee' does not normally mean 'blind' in Latin.

DingleberryFinn · 06/03/2016 15:04

Origin, though, as in derived from - not direct translation.

You're worried it will be vetoed by MIL? She doesn't get a say! Make sure your DH is aware that babies are named by parents, not grandparents.

Call her Jennifer Clare (or other J and C names) and JC for short. Jacey is awful.

mercifulTehlu · 06/03/2016 17:12

I think Jaycee is pretty awful tbh, especially spelled like that. Love Jacinta though.

LarrytheCucumber · 06/03/2016 18:00

My car is called Jacinta Grin

juneau · 06/03/2016 18:08

I'm with your DH and your instincts re: job applications are spot on. Call your DC whatever you like at home as a nn, but please give her a full name that will give her flexibility and make her sound more 'serious' if she wishes to pursue a serious career. I just can't see a lawyer or a CEO called Jaycee - giving her a name that will could hold her back, when I'm sure what you want is to give her every advantage you can. Jacinta would be a better choice.

EvilTwins · 06/03/2016 20:02

In the interests of balance (and hoping this isn't too revealing), the Jacey I teach is head boy. His name is perhaps less important than his conduct.

MamaLazarou · 06/03/2016 20:14

It's not really any of your MIL's business, is it?

Sadik · 06/03/2016 20:23

I know a little (girl) Jaycee, and she's lovely :) Personally, I'd much rather Jaycee than Jacinta . . . But if your DH doesn't like it, it doesn't sound like a good option regardless!

OttiliaVonBCup · 06/03/2016 20:26

Jacinta is genius name for a cat.

Alisvolatpropiis · 06/03/2016 20:47

Jaycee is awful, sorry.

KatieT12 · 07/03/2016 01:43

Jacie if you must... However, I agree! Use the initials, it would work perfectly... So, pick a name you like that begins with J and then a name with C, sorted! Smile

smallplainblonde · 07/03/2016 11:23

I'm not a fan of Jacinta at all. I used to work with a girl called Jacey, she was so lovely. She was very successful professionally and everyone in the company had a lot of respect for her. I agree with PP if you like that name just make it the full name.

squoosh · 07/03/2016 11:25

I don't like Jacinta either. It's one of those names like Majella that was popular in Ireland in the 1960s. It was probably seen as a bit foreign and glamorous but these days it's seen as being a bit Tracey-ish.

Duckdeamon · 07/03/2016 11:26

Your DH is right, and even if used as a nickname it will de facto be her name.

RockUnit · 07/03/2016 12:15

How about Darcy?

charliedontsurf · 07/03/2016 23:08

This is the day I have been dreading...the day my name pops up on mn!

Hi OP, just wanted to say that it's a great name. No one has ever had a problem with it. I've had my name longer than Ms Dugard so that's never popped up either. Occasionally my friends call me Jay-z - I don't mind or care. Kids didn't pick on me at school either. I always get 'what a lovely/unusual name' and I like it.

It's pathetic that people can say a name sounds 'common'. How judgemental and sneery.

whatdoIget · 07/03/2016 23:13

I worked with an Indian Jaycey (I think that was how it was spelt but it was a while ago. It seems nicer that Jaycee. Also I'd be worried about the nickname JCB
