Help with boys names....

BumpPower · 24/02/2016 15:54

Be gentle, not braved the baby names page yet but DS2 is officially cooked and ready anyway and we still don't really have any boys names.....so need some wise mnetters ideas.
We only could agree on one last time - Edward - but I hear it's frowned upon to give your DCs the same name...!
Main criteria is fairly mainstream but not in the top 20, ideally the only one in his class/year (I have a v popular name for.my age and was always bump1 or one the bumps at school.Angry). I'm a teacher so have a million unreasonable reasons for vetoing perfectly good names!

Names I like but DP doesn't:
Benedict/Ben
Rory
Fredrick (fair enough can't have Freddie and Teddy)

Names he likes but I don't:
Roger
Peter
Philip

Can you help?

Toby
Jared
Tristan
Spencer

CPtart · 24/02/2016 16:43

Adam, Dominic, Evan, Marcus, Lawrence, Christopher, Andrew, Isaac, Zachary.

BumpPower · 24/02/2016 16:50

I just think of.... the cabin boy as soon as I hear Roger...wrong I know bit still....

Evan is nice - not too Welsh? (nothing against Welsh names just feel we have no claim to it....)

I love alexander, but my best mate just used it (boo)

Other names on our list (if it helps as we seem to have same taste!)

Barnaby (Barney)
Albert (Bertie)
Callum
Jacob
Elliott
Spencer
Daniel

I love a lot of scottish names but DH doesn't like then

Angus
Hamish
Fergus
Fraser
Innes
Douglas

Names DH likes but i don't
Austin
James
Timothy.

BumpPower · 24/02/2016 17:21

Not heard of innes is that pronounced how it looks ins?
The father in law is Scottish (and called William Wallace for added Scottishness) and v keen on Scottish names. Angus might be too far but Hamish is lovely...although I once had a dog called Hamish.
Why is this so hard?

Pagetta · 24/02/2016 17:36

BumpPower · 24/02/2016 17:44

If you like Reuben, how about Rufus?

Horseshoe1 · 24/02/2016 20:39

If you like Scottish names how about:

Keir
Hector
Angus
Fraser
Lachlan
Ian
Stuart
Andrew
Ivo
Alasdair

Or otherwise how about Elliot, Patrick or Lawrence

HarrysMummy17 · 24/02/2016 20:42

Duncan was my Scottish name choice but wasn't allowed it

Footle · 24/02/2016 22:07

Please don't spell it Rueben.

Onthedowns · 25/02/2016 05:18

Agree correct spelling Reuben it's on my list!

OneMagnumisneverenough · 25/02/2016 08:11

Gregor or Gregory
Patrick
Miles

BumpPower · 25/02/2016 16:37

Ooooo miles is nice!

DP has suggested Robert.... Scottish but not overly so.... Bobby as a knickname (obv accepting that when he's old enough he'd drop it from Rob).... I Don't hate it.
Only horrid Rob I know is on the Archers....

Robert is a great choice (my brother's name).

Another great name that goes well with Edward, and is Scottish but not overly so, is Alexander. Teddy and Alex, or Teddy and Zander, or Teddy and Lexy are all good combos too.
