Ivor?

Have a few months left, but the only name we both really like for a boy is Ivor. I am not worried about the engine(!), but am worried about the "I've a..." thing. Our surname is Williams.

Any thoughts?

I like it!

Good, sturdy name 👍

Luciferbox · 23/02/2016 21:46

Love it, DS2 was so nearly called Ivor.

tictactoad · 23/02/2016 21:59

It's 'the engine' to me but I am old.

I'd be worried about the 'I've a....' potential in this too. Sorry.

Sophronia · 23/02/2016 22:01

I like it, but how about Ivo as an alternative?

IdaJones · 23/02/2016 22:02

As long as your surname isn't Biggun it's fine. Blush

Skrewt · 23/02/2016 22:06

My ndn was Ivor (probably in his 40's now). I never heard the I've a... thing but I'd never heard of Ivor the Engine either so maybe we lived a very sheltered life!

guineapig1 · 23/02/2016 22:09

Ivor is a great name. Just so you know however Ivor Williams is a popular manufacturer of trailers, not sure if that would bother you and really no different to calling your son e.g. John Lewis but I though I would mention it!

TheVeryHungryPreggo · 23/02/2016 22:18

Never heard of Ivor the engine but I thought of horseboxes as soon as I saw Williams (rural background).

However I love the name Ivor.

thebiscuitindustry · 24/02/2016 00:57

I like it (and am old enough to remember Ivor the Engine!)

torthecatlady · 24/02/2016 02:08

Aw love it. I thought of the engine straight away (i'm only 25 though).

wannabestressfree · 24/02/2016 02:10

Love it :)

Thanks v much, all.

I guess it is the "porn name" type teasing that I am worried about, especially if the children in school pick up the "I've a willy" potential. Equally, I don't want to reject a fabulous name just because of the possibility of some school yard teasing. Hmm...

Now you say it like that - hadn't even occurred t me...
Ivor Willi -ums...

Prob best not.

nellyflora · 24/02/2016 15:38

It's DS1 middle name after my late father. It's ok I have never seen it as a fantastic name I must admit. My grandmother liked it after Ivor navello

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 24/02/2016 15:39

Ivan?

katienana · 24/02/2016 16:30

I love it. Its a family name and will be using as a middle name is dc2 is a boy. I think it's traditional with a modern feel. Ivo sounds a bit to middle class try hard to me.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 24/02/2016 16:33

Love it, it's on our list, although reading your surname my brain did day 'Ivor Dick' - but I was trying to be in the potential teasing mindset for you. But hopefully he will have a penis if he's called Ivor anyway. Never heard of the engine. Equally like Ivan! Makes me think of a cat for some reason.

JaneCope · 24/02/2016 20:16

Hmm. My partner really can't see the problem, so maybe I am making too much of it. We like Ivor in particular because of the Welsh heritage, though I do also quite like Ivan.

If it's a welsh connection you're after Ifor may be better. I love Ifor, it's on my list for potential future ds2.

It's more ee-Vor in Welsh than eye-vor

HRHsherlockssextoy · 24/02/2016 21:51

My great grandfather was called Ivor, as was his son, my great uncle.

He died in the Great War, but it is a terrific name. Very pg woodhouse, I think.

If I had done my family history before having two boys, one of them would be called Ivor

JaneCope · 25/02/2016 06:15

The Welshness adds to our liking of the name, but it is really the sound of it that draws us in. It manages to be both strong and soft at the same time!

WindsOfTremorrah · 25/02/2016 10:14

The Welsh pronunciation is ih-vor.

Sophronia · 25/02/2016 12:12

I wouldn't use it with your surname due to the "I've a willy" issue. Ivan Williams would be much better.

DontKillMyVibe · 25/02/2016 12:45

Much prefer Ivan espically with your surname.
