Due a little girl in July and thinking about names. Big brother is Edward (Teddy) Gregory....

Currently on the shortlist are. Unsurprisingly Helene (with accents!) is my french family name which I would like to use.

Zoe Helene
Rose (Rosie) Helene
Blythe Helene

preference and alternatives appreciated!

Gnat - I believe 'Aunt' Jemima has Confederate/Deep South racist connotations..

Ah, I see. Thank you! Perhaps Jemima Puddleduck would offset that. Hmm.

notagiraffe · 24/02/2016 16:36

Not helping here as my favourite is Blythe. Gorgeous name, gorgeous meaning, very unusual. I like Rose but it's very popular, and I'm not keen on Zoe (or Chloe or any oh-ee names.)

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 24/02/2016 17:29

Love Laurie for a boy (dd1 would have been a Laurie) but not for a girl.

Catherine Helene as per PP is nice.

Going to throw some completely random ones in, although I may be way off the mark!

Clara Helene
Posy Helene (love this but suspect it won't be popular!)
Claudia Helene
Isobel Helene
Miranda Helene

Teddy & Tilly

whynogutfeeling · 24/02/2016 17:49

Much prefer Rosa to Rose and Helena to Helene.
Zoe is ok. Not keen on Blythe.
I like Cassie. What about Beatrice (Bea)? Iris is lovely.

SirChenjin · 24/02/2016 17:50

Helene is gorgeous - I'd go with that tbh. Failing that, Rose Helene is also lovely Smile

Other suggestions -

Fleur
Delphine
Aurelia (DH vetoed those 3 Angry)
Flora
Daphne
Beatrice
Elise
Maisie
Mabel
Iris

I love Clara Helene - think Clara and Teddy would go well together, nice old-fashioned names.

Isobel/Isabel/Isabelle/Isabella all very popular at the moment according to various lists.

whynogutfeeling · 24/02/2016 19:01

Yes, Clara is pretty. Added that to my girls list!

Myredcardigan · 24/02/2016 19:49

I know 2 Teddys. One has a brother, Zach and a sister, Sybil. The other has a baby sister, Connie. Constance Helene sounds rather grand.

pieceofpurplesky · 24/02/2016 19:52

I think Betsy and Teddy go well ..
Elizabeth Helene and Edward Gregory.

Ellizardo · 24/02/2016 20:50

Thanks for all these! Really helpful. Clara is a bit Nutcracker sweet for me, ditto Posy. I've loved Claudia and Miranda since I was a little girl but much as I like her as a person, the comedienne has kind of spoiled Miranda for me.
I'm Elizabeth and my best friend is Isobel.
Argh, such a mine field!

Natasha helene?

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 24/02/2016 20:58

I'd actually go with Hélène and choose either Violette or Inès as middle names. Or any combination really.

minmooch · 24/02/2016 21:04

Oh please call her Bear. Smile

Shapebandit · 24/02/2016 21:16

I have a Teddy (short for Edward Douglas) and his sister is Pippa (Philippa). Also on our short list were Hattie (Harriet), Charlotte and Francesca

julfin · 24/02/2016 23:47

Hey Elliz!

I think Rose and Zoe are both lovely and work nicely with Helene (and Edward/Teddy). I don't like Blythe so much, sorry.

I also like Cassandra (Cassie) and Catherine (Kitty). I think Catherine works really well with Edward, enough that you can overlook the cuddly animal issue!

Ellizardo · 26/02/2016 08:10

Thanks Julfin - I guess quite a lot of it will be who we feel she 'is' when she arrives...

MissRabbitHasTooManyJobs · 28/02/2016 05:35

Esme?
Tallulah?
Tilly?

Raines100 · 28/02/2016 06:58

Edward Gregory is a fabulous name.
Hélène is also fabulous. Would be tempted to use that as a first name.
Rose would be my choice from your list. Zoe is a bit anticlimactic after such great names, and Blythe is not to my taste at all.
Agree with whoever suggested Cassandra nn Cassie- now we are back in the realms of fabulous.

Ellizardo · 28/02/2016 08:55

Hi Raines - thanks for navigating us back to Fab! I'm afraid Cassie won't work due to various personal connotations.

Is Tilly short for anything?

OP posts:
julfin · 28/02/2016 09:06

Tilly is normally short for Matilda. Extremely popular name at the moment, I think.

BeauticianNotMagician81 · 28/02/2016 18:20

I like rose as a middle name.

What about Beatrice, Beatrix.
I loved Beatrice (bea for short) to go with Teddy but had we been having a girl it wouldn't have fit with our other names.

thiscannotberight · 28/02/2016 18:40

I came on to say Matilda (Tilly). That's two of my children names though Matilda is much older and my Teddy is two. Nice formal names for whenever they want (Tilly now goes by Matilda at school) but good nicknames too.
