You can shorten any two syllable name.

To one syllable.

Tis the nature of the thing.

joyalf · 18/02/2016 18:14

Struan, Murdo, Cormac.

Whathaveilost · 18/02/2016 19:30

There's a lot of nice names on here!

Scottish names are just lovely, aren't they?

Murray.

Strokethefurrywall · 19/02/2016 16:51

DH is a Fraser - his name is never shortened.

TattieHowkerz · 20/02/2016 09:15

Euan, Iain and Fraser don't have obvious abbreviations.

KatieT12 · 20/02/2016 12:56

Euan, he most likely wouldn't get 'Eu'...

LarrytheCucumber · 20/02/2016 16:35

Fraser might become 'Fraz' though.

deste · 21/02/2016 21:59

Inness, Murray but I do like Hamish.

Salene · 21/02/2016 22:01

Mungo

CormoranStrike · 21/02/2016 23:01

Rory
Fergus
Finlay
Innes
Douglas
Donald
Iain
Euan
Calum

Eigg · 21/02/2016 23:11

Stroke every Fraser I've ever known gets "Fraz" at least from time to time.

Wardy1993 · 21/02/2016 23:12

I know it's 3 syllables but I love love love alistair! Married into a Scottish family and love Scottish names! Good luck deciding op.

OldestStory · 21/02/2016 23:14

Lennox

Strokethefurrywall · 22/02/2016 01:21

Perhaps, has never happened to him and doesn't get shortened here. Probably because people think his name is Frasier. That's a pain in the arse.
If it helps OP, DS1's name is Carter and nobody shortens it.

peggyundercrackers · 22/02/2016 02:35

I've heard a lot of those names shortened as below

Fraser would get frazey or fraz
Lachlan would get lachy
Lewis might get lewy
Finlay would get fin
Donald would get Donnie
Douglas would get Doug or douggie
Hamish could get hammie
