Someone I know had a baby and has text me the name. Masie Ellysse. How would you pronounce them?

Is Masie like Macey (may-see), or like Maisie (may-zee)?

Is Ellysse like Elise, Ellis, Alice with an E not an A or something else?

EE-Lice?! What? No!

Loving Po-ebb.

I know a Sian pn See-Ann, not Sharn.

Dear God. Ee-lice? Thank christ it's a middle name.

There's a Masie pron. Maisie at my DD's nursery. I saw it on the xmas card list and couldn't bring myself to write it that way, it made my teeth itch just looking at it. So I just wrote 'to Maisie' 😊 I don't see why I should have to stoop to the parents' level of illiteracy.

Sadly, I made the wrong call for the child listed as 'Lucus'. That also made me want to cry but I figured it was much less likely to be a typo than just leaving an i out of Maisie, so I faithfully wrote Lucus in his card and then went and scrubbed myself clean. I later got an email from his mum with his name written as Lucas. So it was a typo, and she must think I'm the idiot.

Macey Ellis

Ee-lice is a shame, I rather like the pron. Elise!

Why do people take against certain letters? What's wrong with the 'I' in Maisie? It's bizarre.

elQuintoConyo · 28/02/2016 16:18

Maisy = Daisy
Elysse = smell-fleece, accent on the fleece.

Tiggeryoubastard · 28/02/2016 16:22

Not sure how it's pronounced but I bet it's screeched in a supermarket. Why would you do that?

squicketysquack · 28/02/2016 16:27

I know a Niamh prom Nee-yam. It's Neeve isn't it?

Hennifer · 28/02/2016 16:34

They HAVE to reconsider. That's terrible!

mathanxiety · 28/02/2016 22:20

Yes, it's Neeve. Shock.

....

What a pity registrars can't or won't try to talk people out of youneek spellings.
