Long or short version of name?!

Baby boy due imminently. Torn between Theo Max Arthur [surname] or Theodore Max Arthur [surname]. Would be called Theo for short anyway but Theodore perhaps gives more options (Teddy etc?) and nice to have a longer version of the name? Just not sure whether I like it as much/ does anyone think chipmunks still?!
Middle names are set as family names.
Other option was Lucas for first name but not a fan of Luke which it would inevitably get shortened to.

Thoughts welcome!!

I like Theo as a name in itself - goes very nice with your choice of middle names.

Wafflenose · 16/02/2016 12:03

Theo on its own is fine. I know a couple, and think it's a great name.

DD aged 10 has a boy in her class called Lucas, and he is always called the full Lucas, never Luke.

thebiscuitindustry · 16/02/2016 12:21

I'd go for Theodore with Theo as nickname. Personally I'd probably use a longer version of Max too.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 16/02/2016 12:25

Theodore as Max is also a shortened name

manicinsomniac · 16/02/2016 12:27

I would use Theo on its own, I think but would use a longer form of Max for rhythm/balance.

Theo Maximillian Arthur sounds better than Theodore Max Arthur, imo.

Sophronia · 16/02/2016 12:34

Theodore Max Arthur. I prefer Lucas though.

Newbiehome · 16/02/2016 12:38

Thanks for thoughts so far. Maximillian is a non starter!

I'd go for Maxwell rather than Maximillian, but Max is fine on its own. I think either two shorter names or two longer versions go well, so either Theo Max Arthur or Theodore Maxwell Arthur.

ChessieFL · 16/02/2016 12:46

I know a Lucas and it has never been shortened to Luke.

LadyPriggsbottom · 16/02/2016 13:22

Theodore Max Arthur for me! I think it's nicer for DC to have options for when they grow up says the woman who has a name with lots of shorter NN options but uses none of them.

toffeeboffin · 16/02/2016 13:24

I personally still think Theodore = chipmunks.

But I like Theo. But you can't shorten Theo to Teddy

Ruthiesj · 16/02/2016 13:28

Like PP, I know a 12yo Lucas and his name has never been shortened either (in case that is your only reason for choosing Theo over Lucas).

I prefer Theo to Theodore though.

CityFox · 16/02/2016 14:34

Theodore Maxwell Arthur.

It does remind me a little bit of the chipmunks but they are sweet so it's not necessarily a bad thing!

Newbiehome · 16/02/2016 15:48

Sticking with Max (rather than longer version as it's a family name as it is) and think Theo/ Theodore has pipped Lucas to the post (but only just!) So just need to decide between:

Theodore Max Arthur; or
Theo Max Arthur.

Am erring towards the latter...

squoosh · 16/02/2016 15:58

I'd go with Theo Maxwell.

I just do not like the name Theodore and I can't imagine Theo being such a burden that he'll need 'options' later.

squoosh · 16/02/2016 16:01

Oh I see Max is a definite. Theo Max Arthur in that case. It doesn't flow brilliantly but I really don't think that matters.

Wait4nothing · 16/02/2016 16:06

Theo Arthur Max rolls better off my tongue

DramaAlpaca · 16/02/2016 16:40

Theo Max Arthur sounds best, I think.

Quercus3 · 16/02/2016 19:13

Theo Max Arthur

Lottie2611 · 16/02/2016 19:22

Go for the longer. Your child will be able to choose then

CorneliusCrow · 16/02/2016 19:28

I love these names, but then I would as Dc are Lucas, Max and Theo! They are as they appear on the their birth certificates and Lucas has never had Luke.

Ham69 · 16/02/2016 20:19

I love Theo Max Arthur. I don't think "Theo" needs options. My gorgeous Theo often goes by Bob so who knows what NNs will materialise later! (He loves his name though)

Izzieee · 16/02/2016 20:50

Theo Max Arthur - lovely Smile
