We'd pretty much decided on the name beau for a boy but have since heard negative things about it :(
What do you honestly think about the name?

It sounds very feminine, but use it, it's nice - but just not my style

Tiggeryoubastard · 16/02/2016 09:09

Awful.

ScarlettDarling · 16/02/2016 09:09

I like it. I really dislike 'Bo' which is becoming popular for girls, but 'Beau' is very Gone with the wind-esque...like it!

WileHallion · 16/02/2016 09:10

Awful.

And very sleb baby circa 2004.

Baz13 · 16/02/2016 09:10

I have only ever met two Beau's before and both were boys and beautiful ones too. I did think it was quite a feminine name, but the one I teach now is anything but that and he wears and suits his name well.
If you like it go for it :)

Getit · 16/02/2016 09:11

I like it

thebiscuitindustry · 16/02/2016 09:22

Not keen, sorry.

alltouchedout · 16/02/2016 09:26

How do you pronounce it? I'm never sure!

user1455564583 · 16/02/2016 09:27

It's said like Bo, I thought

Wardrobespierre · 16/02/2016 09:28

I like it. It amuses me that it sounds feminine to some people given its origin.

Go for it.

soapboxqueen · 16/02/2016 09:31

I chose Beau for my ds's middle. I don't think it is particularly feminine not that it would matter if it were.

Mel0Drama · 16/02/2016 09:32

Its a thumbs up from me! Does Beau have any siblings?

whatdoIget · 16/02/2016 09:33

It's the masculine form of beautiful in French isn't it? So not feminine in any way Confused

thebiscuitindustry · 16/02/2016 09:34

Bo Derek and Little Bo Peep.

I know Beau isn't the same name as Bo, but it does sound the same.

Nodney · 16/02/2016 09:35

I've never liked it until I met a Barista of that name the other day. He really suited it and it changed my mind!

OldFarticus · 16/02/2016 09:36

It reminds me of Beau Geste (am old) and I think it's the name of Obama's dog. Sorry.

Dogadviceneeded · 16/02/2016 09:37

Hate it, sorry. It just sounds/looks pretentious and feminine to me.

You would probably hate my (very dull) name choices though, so no real reason why my opinion should put you off!

JasperDamerel · 16/02/2016 09:42

DD has a Beau in her class. He is very nice - funny, clever and extremely sporty. So I like it.

FinallyHere · 16/02/2016 09:54

Have you read or seen 'Gone with the Wind' , by any chance?

I love it, but then you don't meet so many Confederate officers these days.

magpie17 · 16/02/2016 09:55

I don't like it at all and think it's a name that might result in bullying at school (depending where you live possibly).

AntiquityReRises · 16/02/2016 09:58

I really like it! Not the same exactly but another boy for us would've been Bodhi with Bo as a nickname.

I know a Beau. He's definitely not pretentious, but - god love him - beau he ain't Grin

SnuffleGruntSnorter · 16/02/2016 10:07

I was going to make that point, sir. Of course to you he'll always be very handsome, but what if erm, he isn't?

I know a Priti who I was warned (by an absolute prick clearly) "when you meet her don't be surprised at how ironic her name is". It's the same reason I wouldn't use any of the 'virtue' names - it just kind of highlights it if they don't display the quality.

Otherwise I think it's ok. Unless you also have a Belle.

manicinsomniac · 16/02/2016 11:01

I think it's fine but (and this might just be my own insecurities coming out) I personally would be so embarrassed to have the name Beau, Belle, Bella etc if I was just ordinary looking or worse.

I'd feel like that everyone was looking at me and thinking ' ... but she isn't?!'

But that's probably crazy talk!
