Artimus (known as Arty) and Hetty?

We already have a daughter called Lyra.

Arktoi is definitely, exclusively, female. It's plural, as well.

And it's linked to a myth involving killing a female bear and - more distantly - threatened human sacrifice: www.pantheon.org/articles/b/brauron.html

TheImprobableGirl · 31/01/2016 19:27

What about Artemis fowl?? He was a boy... And a criminal mastermind of fairies
I like Artemis and Harriet ? Or Artemis and arietty?

florascotianew · 31/01/2016 19:41

Just because a children's fantasy writer - however good - decides to use a name contrary to normal gender association, it doesn't mean that 2500+ years of naming practice can be ignored. To most people, Artemis still really is a female name; the name of one of the most important ancient Greek goddesses.

SummerMonths · 31/01/2016 19:57

Hetty is sweet but Artimus is a lot to ask a young boy to carry-off.

tinofbiscuits · 31/01/2016 20:38

Yes Artemis is great!

Arktoi sounds like a Noah's ark play set.

Wasn't there a thread recently where it was noted that boys' names are often used for girls but not the other way round?

BertrandRussell · 31/01/2016 21:51

" Or Artemis and arietty?"

Jesus wept

You do realize these Re real life children- who will become real life adults, don't you?

KingJoffreyLikesJaffaCakes · 01/02/2016 00:38

If you like Arriety what about Pod and Homilly?

Meeep · 01/02/2016 00:52

I like Hetty.
I don't really like Artimus or Arty. Arty sounds weird. Also, what if he's sciencey?

crispytruffle · 01/02/2016 10:49

I don't like Artimus but I love Hetty.

momb · 01/02/2016 10:55

Second the above posters re Arthur and Henrietta. You can still get the NNs you want and the names themselves will wax and wane but not particularly date....

CoteDAzur · 01/02/2016 11:12

"Artimus means 'a follower of the goddess Artimis' "

Are you sure about that? A Google search for Artimus Greek mythology turned up exactly zero hits.

The goddess is called Artemis, by the way.

RidersOnTheStorm · 01/02/2016 11:17

I can't find any reference at all to Artimus as a boy's name. The "us" ending is Latin not Greek.

MoggieMaeEverso · 01/02/2016 11:21

Why not call the girl Artemis and the boy Henry?

chrome100 · 01/02/2016 12:38

Only if you're super posh.

Pipilangstrumpf · 01/02/2016 15:52

I would name them Atticus and Henrietta, lovely names imo.

mouldycheesefan · 01/02/2016 16:04

Henrietta or Harriet for girl
Archie or archer for boy

TheImprobableGirl · 11/02/2016 10:32

BertrandRussell I wouldn't necessarily call mine Artemis and Arietty, unless they were goldfish but I thought a bit of variety wouldn't go amiss!

If I had twins I would call them something generic and probably top 20/30 max Grin

YakTriangle · 11/02/2016 13:23

Henrietta and Arthur are both perfectly lovely names and you can use your preferred shortenings.
Hetty and Artimus as full names...Not keen.

Twitterqueen · 11/02/2016 13:25

Can we have an update pls OP?

You must have named them by now!

YakTriangle · 11/02/2016 13:27

Oops, I didn't notice this was from a while ago Blush

Xmasbaby11 · 11/02/2016 13:30

Not my taste. Unless these are normal names in your circle, I wouldn't do it to the children. They sound very unusual as well as old fashioned.
