Cedar, Calvin, Huxley or Tate

I'm leaning towards Huxley but then I heard the pig song. Do you think anyone still gets that reference or just old people?

The other option - probably saved as a middle name is Atticus

Calvin!! I really want my next boy to be Cal, Calvin is growing on me. Cal is awesome.

SchnitzelVonKrumm · 29/01/2016 14:43

Huxley, Aldous or Pig
Calvin, underpants
Tate, Sharon or Gallery
Cedar, Falls.

They're all awful, sorry.

BettyBi0 · 29/01/2016 14:45

ouch! I do really appreciate your honesty though

Calvin, and Cal in particular, are awesome names.

I am biased though, I have one and the only associations anyone has ever made are Calvin Harris, Calvin Klein and Calvin & Hobbes - which are all perfectly respectable imo.

He loves going through airport duty free as he thinks they've all put welcome banners out for him .....

Zhabr · 29/01/2016 17:15

Jean Calvin was my first thought, then underpants.

IoraRua · 29/01/2016 17:17

I think of Dudley because to me, it and Huxley are both unappealing sounds rather than names. Plus the -ley thing, I suppose.
Sorry. But you did ask.

Sometimesithinkimbonkers · 29/01/2016 18:06

I know a Huxley and he is extra specially gorgeous.... It gets my vote xx

Xalyshiax · 29/01/2016 18:14

I really like the name Tate

BettyBi0 · 30/01/2016 12:37

I like Tate too but our surname sounds a bit like Wong, so I worry it would sound like Twong if that makes sense

IssiePink · 30/01/2016 12:57

Calvin is the best, 100%

Biscuitsneeded · 30/01/2016 13:40

They're not to my taste. Bit too trendy and wannabe hipster, and will date. But each to their own! You probably wouldn't like my kids' names!

Toraleistripe · 30/01/2016 13:59

Sorry I really don't like those names.

Paintedhandprints · 30/01/2016 19:51

Love Calvin and hobbes, Tate Donovon is yummy, Cedar is an awesome name, wish my dh would approve but he's a fuddy duddy into traditional names. Wink

Donge13 · 30/01/2016 20:02

We have a Huxley at the school I work in.

FoxesSitOnBoxes · 30/01/2016 20:07

PufflesMC · 30/01/2016 20:32

Penfold007 · 30/01/2016 21:35

Cedar - a tree

Calvin - underpants or cartoon character

Huxley - pig or Aldous the author

If you might end up in the US then I would go with Huxley. Huxley has the literary connection and also nice nickname potential like Hux, Huck, etc. It ticks the surname as name box too.

Tate fits in well with names like Logan and Cole and Levi and other cowboy style names that are popular in the US right now. However, if Tate would end up sounding like Twong when joined with the surname, then avoid it.

Atticus would be nice as a first name.

Snoop Dog's original name was Calvin. It's a sort of an unfashionable old mannish name in the African American community.

Cedar is too desert/New Mexico/ Alaska (Sarah Palinesque) fringe.

I would choose Huxley.

tinofbiscuits · 31/01/2016 10:11

Yes, that's because it's a tree, not a human.

Rowan, Ashley, Aspen, Hazel, Laurel, Holly and Willow are all tree names too...

Unfairestofthemall · 31/01/2016 10:22

I like Calvin ( but then again I have one so probably bias Grin) it's a nice name you don't hear often and although the famous association with pants no ones mentioned them in the 2 years I've had him. Calvin and Hobbes was where I got it from just hoping mine doesn't grow up to be as cheeky!
