At wit's end - Alastair Lloyd?

DH and I cannot agree on names to save our lives! I really wanted a Welsh name but that is not going to happen as DH is not keen. We seem do have come to a somewhat shaky agreement on Alastair Lloyd.

What do people think? Does the fact that we are not Scottish matter?

It goes well and the fact you're not Scottish really doesn't matter! Not fussed on Alastair, but like Lloyd :)

Are you a fan of The Archers?

nightandthelight · 17/01/2016 15:47

My parents are! I am aware of Alastair in it, is his middle name Lloyd?

Ah Lloyd is his surname! Oh well my parents will enjoy the reference :)

I like it.

WillSomebodyThinkOfStefan · 17/01/2016 16:22

I think your parents will be most received you haven't picked Rob!

FWIW I like the name, but not sure how it would suit a baby? It's very nice on an older person.

nightandthelight · 17/01/2016 16:25

I guess he will be an adult a lot longer than he is a baby Stefan :)

In terms of nicknames will it just be Al or Ali? I haven't overlooked a majorly embarrassing one have I?

I like it.

I love the name Alistair. He might spend his life with people assuming he is at least part Scottish, but that's not a bad thing.

Sophronia · 17/01/2016 16:32

Love the name Alastair, especially this spelling.

nightandthelight · 17/01/2016 16:37

Seems to be going down pretty well :) I have to say it is growing on me!

Love the name Alistair and think it's really overlooked at present. I suppose the only hassle factor would be having to tell people the spelling the whole time as it can be with an "i" or an "a".

Al and Ally are both good, solid nns too.

poocatcherchampion · 17/01/2016 16:39

Great name!

weebarra · 17/01/2016 16:39

I have an Alasdair nn Ali, so obviously I'm biased! You will have to spell it a lot though.

nightandthelight · 17/01/2016 16:43

The spelling issue doesn't bother me as I have a name that is also tough for people to spell and I have never minded so hopefully he won't :)

I know two Alastairs - an adult and a 6 year old. Neither are Scottish. I quite like it.

Dogadviceneeded · 17/01/2016 21:04

Alastair is lovely! Not fussed re Lloyd by there's nothing wrong with it at all.

CakeRattleandRoll · 18/01/2016 06:26

Great name. Love Alastair/Alistair/Alasdair.

I wanted a Welsh name for DD, but couldn't persuade DH, so we ended up with a Scottish one instead! And with fairly tenuous Scottish connections (DH's paternal grandfather).
