The Angel of peace?

My youngest has an angel name so I'm quite fond of them. It's very different. Genuinely not sure what I think. I think I like it!

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 03/01/2016 18:41

Oh its quite nice.

Raxacoricofallapatorius · 03/01/2016 18:42

X-posts.

I don't think many people will know it's history.

Raxacoricofallapatorius · 03/01/2016 18:42

Its

Ruddy auto correct

Pinklily1 · 03/01/2016 18:44

Is it pronounced as it is spelt i.e Gav-reel?

I have never heard of it before but I actually quite like it!

Watto1 · 03/01/2016 18:46

That's a lovely name. It's bound to be shortened to Gav though and then people will assume his name is Gavin! Would you be ok with that? I have a friend called Christian who everyone knows as Chris. He is forever being called Christopher. Drives him bonkers.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 03/01/2016 18:46

He can always opt for Gav as a nn if he so wishes

CherryPineapple · 03/01/2016 18:50

He's an angel, guys :)

Aka Gabriel/Gavriel.

I prefer Balonz...

CherryPineapple · 03/01/2016 19:02

Gabriel is different, no?

James is very popular as a middle name.

I quite like Gavreel although I haven't heard of it before.

CherryPineapple · 03/01/2016 19:04

I am picking James because Gavreel is so different!

nooka · 03/01/2016 19:11

Gavriel is a form of Gabriel, who is also known as the Angel of Peace (the angel who appeared to the shepherds in the nativity story). Gavreel would be an alternative spelling. The original being in Hebrew, so a different script with many possible translations.

If you like the meaning OP, then I'd use Gabriel. If you like the v sound more than the b sound but are worried about it being too unusual then I' use it as a middle name.

I've only heard of it from Guy Gavriel Kay the fantasy author.

DingleberryFinn · 03/01/2016 19:12

Gabriel is different no?

No.

I haven't ever heard of it but quite like it, although not keen on the shortened 'Gav'.

JoMalones · 03/01/2016 19:15

Just saw you said he's an angel so I doubt Gav will be used. Sorry for your loss. I think he name is lovely

Watto1 · 03/01/2016 19:17

I'm so sorry. I didn't realise that he was an angel. So sorry for your lossFlowers

CherryPineapple · 03/01/2016 19:24

Thank you :) we are religious though, so we know he'll be up there with God

OP posts:
JoMalones · 03/01/2016 19:26

Thanks then that makes the name even more fitting

scrivette · 04/01/2016 16:35

The name is absolutely perfect for him Thanks

Cattington · 05/01/2016 00:46

It's a beautiful name. Gabriel is my favourite ever boys name and Gavreel is just another version of that. And it sounds good (and is fitting as is also biblical) with James Flowers

mathanxiety · 05/01/2016 06:23

Gavreell is the same as Gabriel, though Gavreel is usually spelled Gavriil -- which is Gabriel in Russian.

I don't know if this will post but the Cyrillic is Гавриил and the English transliteration is direct -- Gavriil (pronounced Gavreel but not normally spelled that way).

Nataleejah · 05/01/2016 21:48

A russian version of a traditional name, plus James???

Don't
Just don't
