Would this cause our child a lifetime of teasing?

We have been trying to put together our choice of girls/boys names and although we are miles away from agreeing on the boy's (as with DC1, thankfully she was a girl as we never agreed on anything), we both really like a particular girl's name but with one concern... Our surname is a colour and this name could be a shade of that colour (think Skye Blue). It has the added significance of being a name already in my family. Do you think the child would be forever teased? The first name itself isn't weird or really unusual, but not particularly common either. We will pick a middle name too which will break it up, but obviously people don't use their full name day to day.

Sorry if I seem a bit cloak and dagger about the actual choice, I just don't want to reveal my surname!

If it's something like Scarlett Rose, make sure you run it through Google first to check who else has used that name.

Fettuccinecarbonara · 25/12/2015 20:03

Isla white?

MarieJeanne · 25/12/2015 20:04

I once knew a woman called Rose Garland.

Pearl Necklace?

+1 for the 'give the kid a break' camp.

I know of an India Grey, which ways puts me in mind of Farrow&Ball and elephants.

Ok, well on balance it seems like it'd be a bad idea... Back to the drawing board we go then. One of you did guess it in fact, although I'm glad to say it was amongst the more boring of your suggestions! To the person who asked about it being awkward it being a name already in the family, they passed away about 25yrs ago now, so I don't think they'd mind sharing Smile
It's such a minefield, but by the time we remove any names of close friends, pets, and ex's, then those that are really popular or have a gazillion incorrect spellings 'new' spellings, we are left with so few either of us like let alone agree on! This was one we'd both picked separately on an initial list but hadn't noticed the surname bit until the 'second round' Sad

I guess Jade Green!

Sophronia · 27/12/2015 23:01

I guess it was Hazel Brown Smile

AllPizzasGreatAndSmall · 27/12/2015 23:09

I did a double take recently when Holly Green was doing the weather forecast on TV.

OP, surely you're not going to leave the thread without telling us?

'Tis the season of goodwill!

CraigRevelHorwoodsPetCat · 27/12/2015 23:13

Jade Green Grin

Elephant's Breath is a wonderful name for a child.
You can shorten it to Nelly B

skankingpiglet · 27/12/2015 23:28

Nelly B would be a great match with what some friends have nicknamed our (very normally and sensibly named) DD as it happens. But alas, Elephant's Breath has not made it into the final cut. DH thought 'Otis' was too weird for a boy's name so I can't see him agreeing to that late edition. It would go with a number of colour surnames too...

I'm sorry Suburban, I probably should have thought ahead and NC for this thread so I could share, but I didn't. Combined with other things I've posted on here it'd out me.
