Bernard?

What do you think of this name? My OH loves it but I'm not sure. I think of "not now Bernard!" (the kids book) and also worry it may be pronounced ber-NARD rather than what we would intend (BER-nard). Not even pregnant yet but interested in people's views!

I don't like it at all, sorry.

Sheezus · 08/12/2015 22:20

No.
I may have clouded judgement as I know three relatives (different sides and generations) with the name and one person I worked with and I haven't a good word to say about any of them
Obnoxious, in your face, individuals all of them.

Sorry. Much nicer, softer, grandad type names out there if you're that way inclined.

Not a very nice name.

It reminds me of that scene in Four Weddings and a Funeral where the bridesmaid is banging away with one of the groomsmen and spends a lot of time exclaiming 'Oh Bernard!'

ScarlettDarling · 09/12/2015 12:51

Oh no! Just...no!

Minty82 · 09/12/2015 13:04

squoosh - apparently Richard Curtis' ex girlfriend ran off with Bernard Jenkins, and as revenge he's included a slightly daft Bernard in every script he's ever written. Think Nursie in Blackadder, the one you mention on Four Weddings, High Bonneville's character in Notting Hill, one of Emma Thompson's kids in Love Actually...

Minty82 · 09/12/2015 13:05

Agh! In, not on, and Hugh, not High...

squoosh · 09/12/2015 13:08

I didn't know that Minty, so funny. Although you think he'd be over it by now! Grin

Minty82 · 09/12/2015 13:26

You would really - though I guess by now his films would feel incomplete without one!

Suzy4321 · 09/12/2015 13:33

abbieanders · 09/12/2015 18:59

MamaLazarou · 09/12/2015 19:00

Lovely name - on my shortlist! Smile

Suzietwo · 09/12/2015 23:21

Amazed by how many hate it. I love it but was vetoed by bloke last time around.

LadyMaryofDownt0n · 09/12/2015 23:54

God no, it's awful sorry.

CheekyMaleekey · 09/12/2015 23:59

Absolutely awful. Ugly and embarrassing for the boy.

DullUserName · 09/12/2015 23:59

Either 'Not now' or 'Shut up Nursey'. Sorry.

Seeyounearertime · 10/12/2015 00:02

Agree with Dewy, not a name to be revived IMO.
