Tigi/Tiger for girl

Which one is better? Or are they both awful? I have two dds already, both with old fashioned names, one which has got very popular and one that hasn't. If this baby was a boy he almost definitely would have been Tiger but I'm not sure it suits a girl or of Tigi is a rubbish feminine alternative. Any thoughts? (I have thick skin 😑 )

i really like it

MouldyPeach · 07/12/2015 06:41

I'm really glad of all the opinions and it definitely seems to be a marmite sort of name. If everyone loved it I'd probably be put off a little. I've been looking at tiger translated into other languages and quite like the Afrikaans Tier (tee-air) which doesn't go at all with my other DCs classic/old lady names but I don't think it's that important.

Seeing Tier written out reminds me of wedding cakes, she would end up having to constantly correct people...

rainydaygrey · 07/12/2015 07:06

Tiger in Afrikaans is more like a long, drawn out "Tear" with a rhotive r.

Honestly, I wouldn't. Just stick to Tiger as a nickname. For any name you fancy. A family member was always known as Tiger, her given name is completely unrelated.

rainydaygrey · 07/12/2015 07:08

Tear to rhyme with beer, I mean.

In ds last school (juniors) he was in class with a girl who had tiger as her middle name.

She loved it. Always preferred it to her common normal first name.

I like it. But I am not sure i would be brave enough.

I wish I had thought of it for dd middle name!

BertrandRussell · 07/12/2015 08:50

"Tier as in cake?"

Don't do it!

50ShadesofNope · 07/12/2015 13:36

Antigone with Tiger or Tigi as a nn would be great.

Not Tegan!

KoalaDownUnder · 08/12/2015 13:35

I think it's awful. As an adult woman, I would hate to introduce myself on the phone at work as 'Tiger'.

manicinsomniac · 08/12/2015 13:57

I know two Tiggys, both of whom are really Antigone.

I like Tiggy but really don't like Antigone. Tegan is nice. Katinka is sweet but I don't see how it links to Tigi. Tinker maybe!! I only know one and she doesn't shorten it.

Tiger on its own - I wouldn't use this for a girl.

BertrandRussell · 08/12/2015 13:58

You wouldn't have to, Koala (that made me smile). Because you would have changed it the minute you got the chance.

Stollenlover · 08/12/2015 14:00

Another vote for Antigone, nickname Tigi/Tiggy.

I don't like Tiger on its own, nor do I like Tegan - they both sound so masculine.

BertrandRussell · 08/12/2015 14:01

Although I do have a friend with a seriously "unique" name who has kept it. When asked she sighs and says "My parents were very young" .......

looki · 08/12/2015 14:01

I would absolutely hate to be called Tiger. Tiggy is ok as a nickname.

willconcern · 08/12/2015 14:12

Sorry, I think both are awful.

SoupDragon · 08/12/2015 14:16

I think you should get a cat if you want to name something Tiger or Tiggy.

You are naming a person. someone who will be a fully grown adult.

Antigone is far better if you want to use Tiggy as a nickname.
