Daphne or Bonnie?

DD2 due in New Year and for some reason we can't make up our mind. Love both but my reservation about Daphne is that 1) is the sound slightly harsh? 2) nn like Daffy inevitable. Reservation about Bonnie is that it may be too cutsie for a grown woman. Also what middle names go well with either? DD1 is Nancy.

I would go with Bonnie :) I know a grown Bonnie, in a professional position and 4 kids! Suits her well - not a fan of Daphne, sorry

Luckystar1 · 01/12/2015 20:40

I know a Bonnie. She hates it and refuses to be called by her full name. Literally every single time I mention her name to anyone they immediately say - 'does she lie over the ocean?'. Do not inflict this on your child.
Daphne is lovely and can be shortened as you say, and used in whole if preferred.

Either is great (though I would pick Daphne), you are overthinking - though am very slightly aware of the two 'ee' sounds at the end of each of the names. But there won't be many years where you'll be saying the girls' names as a pair.

Daphne Rose
Daphne Mara
Daphne Lois
Daphne Venus
Daphne Kate

Bonnie Louise
Bonnie Frances
Bonnie Sarah

Daphne.

Sunshine511 · 01/12/2015 20:48

I prefer Bonnie x

spritefairy · 01/12/2015 20:49

Bonnie here

evenoldergregg · 01/12/2015 20:51

I considered both of those names for my daughter. Nancy was high up on the list too! I was afraid to use Daphne as we're in Glasgow, and I feared she may have been nicknamed dafty, a common though fairly mild insult! I see Bonnie as quirky, not cutesy.
Others that appeared on my list:
Dorothy,
Muriel,
Violet,
Josephine,
Morag,
Wilma,
Ines,
Agnes,
Flora.

SleepyRoo · 01/12/2015 20:55

evenoldergregg what names did you end up using?

Daphne sounds like girl off Scooby Doo, I prefer Bonnie...

evenoldergregg · 01/12/2015 21:12

I used Violet, that was 6 years ago now and was still fairly uncommon in Scotland!

MargotLovedTom · 01/12/2015 21:13

To me Bonnie is a dog's name.

Whythehellnot · 01/12/2015 21:14

I like Bonnie, Daphne is awful, too old fashioned.

MarieJeanne · 01/12/2015 21:15

I like both.
Bonnie sounds like it's short for something, but I don't know what

Youareyou · 01/12/2015 21:21

Bonnie for sure. Daphne is too scooby doo for me,

SleepyRoo · 01/12/2015 21:49

Seems like Bonnie might be edging it, slightly...

Daphne, definitely.

Bonnie is very twee.

ExBallerina · 01/12/2015 21:59

Ooh both are nice. I honestly don't know any Bonnies though...so I vote Bonnie.

RiverTam · 01/12/2015 22:01

Don't like either. Daphne very old fashioned for a reason and Bonnie very cutesey and yes, a bit doglike.

SleepyRoo · 01/12/2015 22:18

Think the Bonnie/dog thing derives from a Blue Peter retriever who pegged out in 2001, so not too worried about that. Was more concerned it might not suit a woman in authority necks cod liver oil

Daphne

Sophronia · 01/12/2015 22:57

I prefer Daphne

BabCNesbitt · 01/12/2015 23:40

Daphne is lovely. Bonnie doesn't really sound like a proper name.

Pigzoom · 01/12/2015 23:42

Daphnebis lovely . Bonnie is silly

Purplerain067 · 01/12/2015 23:43

I prefer Bonnie

Ipushedmygrannyaffabus · 02/12/2015 00:28

Sorry don't like either. Bonnie is a dogs name and what if she's not Bonnie? (As we say for 'pretty'). Daphne is just an ugly name.

Nancy is fabulous - please name her sister something just as gorgeous!!
