It's pretty.

I know quite a few around 10 years old. There might be a question is it said Mee-a or My-a. I would suppose Mee-a as in Mia Farrow.

Personally I like it; I know a very lovely girl with the name.

There is also a Welsh name Nia.

SoWhite · 29/11/2015 18:41

Pretty but dull and very popular. Saying that, the popular names are popular because they are liked.

GothJoose · 29/11/2015 18:48

It's my favourite popular name. Definitely a contender if I ever have another dd

Essexgirlupnorth · 29/11/2015 18:49

I used to work with someone in Australia who was upset Lleyton Hewitt and his wife called their daughter Mia because it got super popular.

thorshammer · 29/11/2015 18:49

Is it popular Confused I don't know any at all !

OP posts:
SoWhite · 29/11/2015 18:54

It was 13th most popular in 2014.

SoWhite · 29/11/2015 18:55

7th most popular in 2012.

Sophronia · 29/11/2015 19:04

Very plain and a bit 'meh' and insubstantial.

celtictoast · 29/11/2015 19:13

Would you pronounce it Mee-a or My-a? If it's Mya I'd spell it that way so people don't say Mee-a.

celtictoast · 29/11/2015 19:13

Or Maya (but then would people think it was May-a?)

thorshammer · 29/11/2015 19:14

No it would definitely be Mee-a

We have 2 nieces called Mia (Mee-a), my 7 yo niece, & dh's 18 yo niece. The younger one gets called My-a quite a bit, much to my ds's annoyance

Donge13 · 29/11/2015 19:16

We have 16 Mia's at the school I work at,all of varying ages but I still like it

thorshammer · 29/11/2015 19:17

Oft that's it out the window then . Too popular. Thanks for the replies everyone Smile

Oh man, lots of these in the school I work in. Ditto Tia/Leah. Lots of -ia names in general and they all blend together tbh. I wouldn't go for it.

Skiingmaniac · 30/11/2015 21:40

What about Thea.....I've always liked it

Gutterflower · 30/11/2015 21:49

Shitwithsugaron I have a Mia Elizabeth too but mines 8 years old. Obviously biased but I love the name and it's one which hasn't been overused in the last few years

Gutterflower · 30/11/2015 21:52

Hmmm...Mine is the only Mia in her year group, 2007 must not have been a popular year for Mia's where I live.

squoosh · 01/12/2015 11:53

I know a LOT of little Mias.

HopefulAnxiety · 01/12/2015 12:07

What about May/Martha/Mara? Meredith? Marisa/Marissa?

Nina/Serena/Selena have similar sounds but less common.

MrsGentlyBenevolent · 01/12/2015 15:19

I like it, though prefer Nia (Knee-a) myself. I always presume Mia is Mee-a not Mai-a - always thought the latter was spelt Maya. There's also Thea or Rhea, which are obviously similar but less popular.
