Why so many?? 4 Harrys in one class alone!

hobitty · 30/11/2015 12:42

We know loads of

Harry (4 in class of 19!), Oliver, Jack, Archie, Sam, Ben

Ella, Ellie, Evie, Sophie, Issy/Isabel/Isabella, Olivia

There are so so many lovely names to choose from, why do so many choose such popular names....!?

There are lots of Joshs, Sams and Bens in my DS's year (Year 8). Not sure about girls.

When he started primary in a different city, Daniel and Ruby were the most popular names in his school year.

Twowrongsdontmakearight · 30/11/2015 22:32

DS 16 has 5 Alexes in his class so they're all known by their surnames.

Notanangryone · 30/11/2015 22:42

I know about 6 Ethans who are either 4 or 5 now. The popularity of that name seemed to come out of nowhere. Was it because the mums had Ethan Hawke in their teenage wall and some sort of name osmosis imprint?
I know Danni Minogue used it too, but she seemed to decide on it during the deluge, not at the start of it.

ExBallerina · 01/12/2015 00:39

My daughter's in preschool here in Canada:

Girls-Olivia, Emma, Isla.

Boys-Henry, Jack, Theo and Jasper. You can't say Jasper without 4 kids turning around.

mathanxiety · 01/12/2015 00:58

DS, now 22, had iirc four Emilys and one Emilie in his year of 40 children in elementary school. DS was going to be Emily or Grace if he had been a girl Smile -- dodged that one.
DD1(25) had four Katies, all of whom spelled their BC name Kathryn.
DD4(14) had duplicate Rachels, Graces and Sarahs.

For boys, there were lots of Michaels, Henrys, Lukes, Jameses(sp) and Liams.

Alexander and Alexandra (Alex and Allie) were the single most popular names for boys and girls in high school for many years.

CordeliaFrost · 01/12/2015 10:53

DS is at a small pre-prep, where year groups are very small, so these are the most popular names throughout the school.

Boys - Oliver, Oscar, Freddie, Edward and Theo.

Girls - Emily, Grace, Freya, Molly and Evelyn

TheLittleLion · 01/12/2015 15:24

My son is 2, the most popular names here are definitely Oscar and Mia.

bkay19 · 02/12/2015 15:42

first DC due in January but my sister said there's 6 girls (out of a class of 29) with either May/Mae/Rose as a double-barrel!

GeorgiaT2468 · 02/12/2015 16:50

SheGotAllDaMoves · 02/12/2015 16:58

Oh and Thomas.

SarahSavesTheDay · 02/12/2015 18:32

I can't understand why anyone would choose the name Isabella or its permutations. It reached a saturation point long ago.

Sirzy · 02/12/2015 18:33

I am guessing because they like it?

BikeRunSki · 02/12/2015 18:38

DS (7) - Niamh, Oliver, Jack, Isaac
DD (4) - Noah, George, Isaac, Amelia
