What are your thoughts on Julianne, Juliet, Julia or Julie? Which do you prefer? (nn Jules).

I actually think 'Julie' is lovely, especially pronounced the French way (where it's the normal form of the name). But because it was so popular over here in the 60s it's probably going to be seen as dated in the UK for many years to come.

Juliet is also nice, and Julia is classy (although I associate it with a very cold person I know, but that's specific to me obviously).

Julianne, not sure. I only associate it with American film stars, really. How about Juliana (pron. Julie-AHna)?

OhPillocks · 22/11/2015 16:11

I know a 20 year old Julie - it's a lovely pretty name.

celtictoast · 22/11/2015 18:11

I like Juliet and Julianne. Juliana is a nice suggestion too.

AuntGertrude · 22/11/2015 20:43

Julia

TurquoiseDress · 22/11/2015 21:37

Juliette!
Spelt the French way which I think looks beautiful

TurquoiseDress · 22/11/2015 21:38

Julianne will be one of those names that people will constantly as how to spell, she'll get called Julie or Anne instead etc

RiverTam · 22/11/2015 21:40

Julia. A beautiful classic Roman name.

SparklyPenguin · 22/11/2015 21:44

Love Julia and Juliette. And sooner or later Julie's due a comeback.

HackerFucker22 · 23/11/2015 08:31

Juliet is beautiful. The rest not great.

SoMuchToBits · 23/11/2015 08:35

Juliet.

aurorie11 · 23/11/2015 08:38

I have a Juliet, NN etie.
Love it that she's the only one in school

MaisieDotes · 23/11/2015 09:42

Etie is a lovely nn for Juliet aurorie

It was only the potential shortening to Julie that put me off naming DD Juliet. I never thought of Etie.

squoosh · 23/11/2015 11:44

Juliet and Julia are equally lovely.

Demelza and Ross' baby in Poldark was called Julia.

alltouchedout · 23/11/2015 11:53

Juliet is nice.

JellyBaby26 · 23/11/2015 11:55

I have a beautiful Juliette sat on my lap!

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 23/11/2015 11:56

I like Juliet, and also Juliana (which I would pronounce more like Juli-ahna, rather than Juli-anna)

NOt so fussed on Julianne, although it's nice enough.

Don't like Julie or Julia, but of the two, I prefer Julia.

Yika · 23/11/2015 12:00

I love Julie and think it is due a big comeback. It is so pretty and simple. Popular in French-speaking countries now.

Julia is a lovely classic name.

I don't like Juliet, I find it harsh. Julianne doesn't do much for me either.

babyblabber · 23/11/2015 14:52

DD2 born in January was very nearly Juliet. I love it but in the end just couldn't as I hate Jules. I've a friend called Julianne who has only been called Jules since she was about 10 so I know it would be inevitable.

Strangely, 2 people I know had juliettes within a month of her being born so it must be on the rise.

CruCru · 24/11/2015 01:01

My name is Julia and I like it a lot. Only thing is, I went through a spate of people nicknaming me Julie (which to me is quite a different name) - this would be a problem with all these names (except Julie). Would that bug you?

DramaAlpaca · 24/11/2015 01:06

I love Juliet, Julia and Julianne in that order, but I'm not keen on Julie, which I think is a bit dated, unless you are French of course, in which case it's not.

lemonpoppyseed · 24/11/2015 01:36

Maisiedotes
I have a Juliet too, nickname Jet (for now).

MiddleAgeMiddleEngland · 25/11/2015 19:59

I love the name Julie but DH wasn't keen so we didn't use it. I prefer it to Juliet or Julia.

AngelsWithFilthySouls · 26/11/2015 12:13

I like Julie, have a lovely friend with this name (late 20s) and was on my parents' list for me but they didn't want 2 DD with same initials.

Julianne would be my least favourite of the options.

paperdreams94 · 27/11/2015 17:06

Juliet and Julianne are very pretty, I think Juliet edges it for me, though.

I really love Julia, too! Spent the summer in America and met three, who were 21, 14 and 6. Suited them all! Really classic name.

The only one I don't like is Julie - it's dated and I don't think it's really due a revival.

CremeEggThief · 27/11/2015 17:11

Julia, Juliet, Juliana, Julianne and Julie, in that order.
