I have an 8 year old Katie. Short for Catherine (which DD hates with a passion!) and says she want to be Cat/Kat when she is older. Also love the nn Kate. I was told that there would be loads of Katies at nursery and school, but we've lived in 2 cities and I've only met one other the same age as DD.

Alyx80 · 20/11/2015 21:15

Sorry I don't like it, it's too boring and popular for me.

NapoleonsNose · 20/11/2015 21:18

It's a great name!

ohlittlepea · 20/11/2015 21:22

I love it, I don't get the babyish comments, there are some very serious and grown up katies around.

ivykaty44 · 20/11/2015 21:27

I think it'd a lovely name Wink

whirlybird42 · 20/11/2015 21:28

It's a fab name. I like it because it's classic and neutral - in terms of age and class association. And it still gets lots of compliments even on a now older person Wink

DurhamDurham · 20/11/2015 21:29

I like it, it's a lovely name. I know ten of various ages so that would put me off slightly.

purpledasies · 20/11/2015 21:32

I find it rather old fashioned personally. I knew dozens of Katies growing up.

Shesinfashion · 20/11/2015 21:35

Dated and dull.

GlitteryFluff · 20/11/2015 21:36

I like it. it's my name
Suitable for a baby, child and adult I'm proof
I'm just Katie, not shortened from Katherine and hardly ever shortened to Kate.
Doesn't often get misspelled, sometimes Katy, but compared to some of the names I read on here that I can't even say let alone attempt to spell it's really not that bad!

ktmummy1 · 20/11/2015 21:38

I would also say it's on a par with Sarah, Alison date wise and style wise.

msgrinch · 20/11/2015 21:40

Such a dull and dated name, I think it's very plain. Though I've only met one nice Katie (and she was a Katherine) so that may colour my opinion. Its still a bit bland though.

PositivePete · 20/11/2015 21:45

Perfect. On its own. With an ie. Not short for anything.

CheekyMaleekey · 20/11/2015 21:51

Very boring. Up there with 'Jane'.

Tidypidy · 20/11/2015 21:59

My 9yo is Kate which many people try to lengthen to Katie or Kathryn which drives her crazy! She's the only Kate we know her age and feel it's a name that will suit her forever.

CoffeeChocolateWine · 20/11/2015 22:03

Katie is lovely, but I prefer Katy spelling and personally I would opt for Kate. I think Katie sounds better on a little girl and perhaps a little too cutesy on an adult. I don't like Katherine so much. I disagree about it being dated...I think it's timeless. Along with the likes Anna and Emma etc.

MrsDiesel · 20/11/2015 22:06

I really like it, my Katie is seven, I wish I had used Katherine on her birth certificate though.

KanyesVest · 20/11/2015 22:10

If DS had been a girl he would have been Katie, short for Catherine. By a really weird coincidence, the doctor who delivered him was called Katie, assisted by a doctor with the boy's name we had picked and used for him Smile

NahItsOkTa · 20/11/2015 22:11

It's dated, it was hugely popular in the eighties so always seems as if it belongs to that era to me.

Helenluvsrob · 20/11/2015 22:14

It's a fine, real name. Possible have q Sunday name on the BC but I guess you don't have too

katienana · 20/11/2015 22:17

I like it but as a nickname. I prefer the full length version as I've matured. I'm a Kathryn.

kittylh · 20/11/2015 22:51

I'm a Katie and well, I like it. Not short for anything, sometimes shortened to Kate (but rarely).

I was one of 5 in my year when I was in highschool, but I don't think that would be a problem now. And I may be bias, but I wouldn't call it dated at all. It is still used and I've met plenty younger than me, it's just not as common now as names such as Amelia/Sophie/Isabelle and the likes.

TheDowagerCuntess · 21/11/2015 01:34

Fine (and I know I'm damning with faint praise) as a nickname or shortening for a young girl, but too twee for my tastes on a grown woman. Kate is a timeless, elegant name, though.

ExBallerina · 21/11/2015 01:49

I like it.

NadiaWadia · 21/11/2015 03:07

It's nice, but very much a little girl's name, IMO. It would be better to use Katherine on the birth certificate (lovely, classic name) which also gives the option of using other short forms (Kate, Kathy, Kitty) etc., later on, if she should choose. Or you could use Caitlin, which is also lovely.

Even Kate on the birth certificate would be better, as it sounds more grown-up, though it still isn't a complete name.
