My OH and I are planning to try for our second baby over the next year, we've discussed names as standard and for a girl I am in love with the name Caliope (pronounced Ca-Lie-O-Pea) I've loved this name since I was a young girl and always said I would name my LG this, my OH hates this and wants something 'normal'. Is there any inspirational people out there I can convince my OH to like this name (please don't say Greys Anatomy, no matter how strong she is in the series, this annoys him and he believes I've got the name from TV when I haven't Sad)

Does he like Cally? You could call her that as a day to day name, as a compromise? It's what she'd end up being called anyway.

I really wanted Persephone as a girls name, and didn't have the guts in the end, so I admire you for actually wanting to use your name!

Sorry but no, you can't convince him. He has as much right as you to have his child named a name he actually likes.

My husband detested my favourite name, I disliked all the ones he suggested. We compromised and used a name we both liked, it suits our daughter perfectly. I don't even like the name I loved so much anymore.

I'm with your DP. Having a name nobody will ever EVER be able to spell/pronounce correctly is a complete mare. Find a name that's close to the one you like but a little better known.

Oh I love Calliope. I think most people can pronounce it, can't they? If they can do Penelope or Persephone, they can do Calliope.

I'd ask him to keep considering it just in case it grows on him.

Callie could be a good middle ground (sounds very American to me though!)

Sadly a name has to be a joint decision so I'd go back to the drawing board.
