What do you think of this girls name? It means small champion, which I think is lovely Smile x

Thanks for the advice. My dd is called Keira and I think Carly works better with that than Charlotte does. Although I do accept your point. I know there are more elegant names out there but I think Carly is sweet and has a lovely meaning. It is also Gaelic, as is Keira. I'm Scottish and so i feel that works well. Thank you for the advice though x

Don't like it, I know an unpleasant Carly.

mathanxiety · 17/11/2015 05:00

Carly isn't Gaelic, but it's very nice. It's a feminine form of Charles, via Carla.

(sheknows . com isn't a reliable source of name meanings)

I would put it in the same category as Cleo -- stylish, simple, with a sort of rock vibe to it.

BadlyBehavedShoppingTrolley · 17/11/2015 05:01

It's okay. I wouldn't choose it but I don't recoil in horror either.

Thank you for the info mathanxiety! Serves me right for believing the first website I stumbled upon! Lol. Smile x

I like it. It's pretty in a tomboyish kind of way.

The kind of name I wished I was a called as a child in the 80s!

I still quite like it. Refreshing change from all the Victorian names.

RagdollObsessed · 22/11/2015 00:37

I like it but prefer it to be spelt carley I think

DeepBlueLake · 22/11/2015 00:55

I love it! Very sweet name.

NahItsOkTa · 22/11/2015 03:54

Well this is wierd, I was just telling my DP today how I think the name Carly is due a revival, it's just lovely. I'd absolutely consider it if my baby-making days weren't over (sob).

manicinsomniac · 22/11/2015 10:07

I don't like it but when I think about why I think it's just that I associate it with a couple of very unpleasant girls at school. I haven't heard it on anyone younger than their late 20s so if I met a baby Carly it would probably grow on me.

myotherusernameisbetter · 22/11/2015 13:57

I like it - I prefer Carla though.

UntilTheCowsComeHome · 22/11/2015 14:10

I like it, however it does have an 80s vibe to it so I'd avoid Louise as a middle name, the middle name of choice in the 80s. Grin

Carly Alexandria
Carly Elizabeth
Carly Amelia
Carly Rose

Sunshine511 · 23/11/2015 08:56

UntilTheCowsComeHome - great idea about the Middle name! You're right about Louise being popular in the 80s. I'll definitely have a think about more current names Smile
