Well without the y I'd pronounce it pole but with the why it's not pole-y it's paul-y. Iyswim? Does that.make any sense

I think it depends really. For me (being Scottish) I pronounce Polly just the same as Paul but with the y on the end. If that makes sense. So to me, I think they're too similar. So don't go to America or Scotland!! Lol. Not sure what other accents might fall into that category x

Sunshine we are in Scotland too. I definitely pronounce Paul-y and Polly the same. I just assumed everyone did that's why I asked.

Well I live in England now and Paul is said really differently to how we say it! I'm trying to think of a way to type it how it's pronounced! Really struggling though! Lol. They say polly just like we do though! I think in Scotland, Polly and Paul are maybe just too samey!!x

Paul rhymes with wall, and polly with lolly, it's a shorter 'o' sound in the middle

I think its fine.

The only problem you will have is shouting 'Pol' or 'Paul' up the stairs and having them both come running.

Doesn't really matter about your accent, or how differently you pronounce Pol and Paul, and distance, or with muffled hearing, the two will get mixed up.
