Yes. It's a very nice name.

PotteringAlong · 11/11/2015 18:09

Yes!

IoraRua · 11/11/2015 18:12

A bit overly matchy for me but not ridiculous...tis fine.

florascotianew · 11/11/2015 19:21

Yes! Traditionally, Polly is a nickname for Mary - nothing to do with Paul/Pauline.

Pipbin · 11/11/2015 19:23

Please do. We were going to have Polly had we got that far. There seem to be so few out there.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 11/11/2015 19:24

Yes

olaflikeswarmhugs · 11/11/2015 20:48

Does it change anything if I say I sometimes use Paulie as a term of endearment for DH? I know I could just stop Grin

Don't go to America I think they'd pronounce poll and Paul the same

olaflikeswarmhugs · 12/11/2015 14:10

Do you mean in Polly they will drop the y?

Because I pronounce Poll and Paul the same?

OP posts:
olaflikeswarmhugs · 12/11/2015 14:11

Well without the y I'd pronounce it pole but with the why it's not pole-y it's paul-y. Iyswim? Does that.make any sense

Sunshine511 · 12/11/2015 19:17

I think it depends really. For me (being Scottish) I pronounce Polly just the same as Paul but with the y on the end. If that makes sense. So to me, I think they're too similar. So don't go to America or Scotland!! Lol. Not sure what other accents might fall into that category x

olaflikeswarmhugs · 12/11/2015 19:34

Sunshine we are in Scotland too. I definitely pronounce Paul-y and Polly the same. I just assumed everyone did Blush that's why I asked.

So what are the differences in England then ?

OP posts:
Sunshine511 · 12/11/2015 19:39

Well I live in England now and Paul is said really differently to how we say it! I'm trying to think of a way to type it how it's pronounced! Really struggling though! Lol. They say polly just like we do though! I think in Scotland, Polly and Paul are maybe just too samey!!x

froggyjump · 12/11/2015 19:47

Paul rhymes with wall, and polly with lolly, it's a shorter 'o' sound in the middle

scatterthenuns · 15/11/2015 14:59

I think its fine.

The only problem you will have is shouting 'Pol' or 'Paul' up the stairs and having them both come running.

Doesn't really matter about your accent, or how differently you pronounce Pol and Paul, and distance, or with muffled hearing, the two will get mixed up.
