I am totally stuck on names for my baby girl, due any day! I want a classic, elegant name that is not too, too popular or likely to scream 'born in 2015' in 20 years time SmilePlease tell me what you think of:

Eloise
Madeleine
Imogen

Thank you!

Eloise x 100000

I love all of them! You have great taste. My name is Imogen, and Madeleine and Eloise are two of my favourite girls names ever!

I don't see Imogen as likely to date at all but that's because I have grown up with it I suppose! I got loads of nicknames as a child, Immy/Imo/Mo to name a few! More often than not I'm just Imogen, now.
You might want to think about nicknames in general. The thing that puts me off about Madeleine and Eloise for future dds is that they could well get shortened to Maddie which I'm not all that keen on or Ellie which is soooo popular.
Adelaide or Louisa possible alternatives?

They all scream 2010-2015 and popular to me but that just maybe my area.

I know at least 3/4 of all of them. Imogen (and Isabelles) are 2 to the penny!

Argh! This is so hard! I think the vote here is slightly in favour of Madeleine, but my gut reaction to that is "no, I don't want them to say Madeleine" GrinConfused so I guess that clarifies my thinking a bit!!!

Can you suggest any other names that you think suit my brief but aren't so popular/ of their time?? I love Elizabeth for example, but the last 4 girls born to friends have all been named Elizabeth, so can't go for that!

Haha, don't go with Madeleine then OP! Smile

How about Elodie, Tabitha, Mary, Helena?

TakesTwoToTango · 05/11/2015 14:58

I like all of this Tiffany but elodie seems quite popular too at the moment? Tabitha my DH doesn't like and the other two are out for family reasons.

Ahhh no! Hmm...

Annabel / Annabelle, Eleanor, Florence?

TakesTwoToTango · 05/11/2015 15:02

You're definitely on the same wavelength Tiffany! Keep going... Grin

Do we think Alice is too dull?

Similar vein to Madeleine but not Madeleine:

  • Marlene/Marlena
  • Magdalena
  • Martha
  • Maggie/Margaret
  • Elaine
  • Elena

Thanks Clara, I like Martha and Margaret, but DH not so keen. I also like Clara!

Alice is really pretty! But more commonly used than some of the other names mentioned.

Evelyn, Ruth, Cora, Marnie, Henrietta (Hetti), Rosalie.

clarabellski · 05/11/2015 15:23

Clara is of course an awesome name Grin, as is the classic Claire, if you like French names (Eloise and Madeleine makes me think you do!)

For girls names my OH was pushing for Marta rather than Martha and in the end we took both off list as couldn't agree (he really likes European spellings of names)
