Hi, I'm finding is difficult to find boys names that I like and I have an ever growing list of girls names. Please critique my girls names and help me find some boys names I might like. I'd love to hear your suggestions.

My guidelines - don't like bible names, like nature names and "ryn" or "wyn" endings. My surname is Ww* so its long with multiple w-sounds.

Girls
Zoe - OH's favourite
Annie - always been a fan
Quinn - The letter Q is cool right?
Willow - I love love love this but worry that W-W-W-W would be a bit of a mouthful but there are plenty of WW names e.g. William Wallace, William Wordsworth, they always sound fine to me.
Violet - My gran's middle name. I'm a big fan but not sure it goes with Ws. Could be a middle name candidate. I see its quite popular at the moment though.
Robin - Nice but not sure yet
Merryn - Like Ryn sounds

Boys
Oscar - pretty much the only male name I like so far. Is it super popular at the moment?
Casper - maybe? similar sound
Jasper - maybe? similar sound
Merlin - love this but is it too "cool"?
Benjamin - Ben is quite nice, I suppose.

Andie Catrin is actually a Welsh name. Maybe your friend has got some Welsh roots in her family somewhere?

Of the OP's list I like Zoe, Merryn and Violet the best for girls.

For boys, Oscar is top 10 I believe. I really love Jasper. I like the name Merlin in theory but think it would be quite a difficult name to live with.

Girls:

Favourites:
I like Robin, but for some reason prefer the Robyn spelling
I like Merryn too.

Next:
Prefer Anna to Annie - but Annie is nice
Willow is nice
Violet is lovely

Least favourite:
Quinn (too surnamy)
Zoe

Boys:

Like Casper, but really dislike Jasper, for some reason
Oscar - far far too common
Merlin- silly (sorry)
Benjamin - OK

I suggest:
Leah
Stevie
Serena
Connie

Evan
Marcus
Patrick
Matthew

Elowen. Cornish girls name. It means Elm.

BeeeeAve · 03/11/2015 18:20

I love Annie (although would it be short for something?). Its classic and simple and pretty without being fluffy. Also love Robyn (always think it should be with a 'y' for a girl and an 'i' for a boy...).

I'm not usually a fan of classic boys names, but I do like benjamin very much. Its solid. Merlin is vile! The others are meh - Caspar, Jasper, Oscar - middle class names bingo - full house! Grin

Not Quinn - she'll get called Quim which you do not want (google it!)

Rosenwyn is a Cornish name like Merryn. There are lots of Merryns at the moment though.

When I was young everyone was called Zoe, I think of hairdressers and Barbie (sorry)

Anna that could shortened to Annie I like. My great grandma was Annie Eliza. I also have a fiend called Katrin but it's quite harsh sounding.

Casper I think of the ghost. What about Cassian? Jasper is classy I think.

I think it's about time Algie came back :)

5madthings · 04/11/2015 17:01

There aren't lots of Merryns at all at the moment, I have watched the name in ons statistics and most years recentky there have been less than or around 30 baby girls named Merryn each year.

5madthings · 04/11/2015 17:07

Last year it was at number 907 with 41 girls named Merryn in the UK, really not popular at all.

It's been very similar for the last five or so years, not shooting up the charts at all.

BreeVDKamp · 04/11/2015 17:22

Ooh I'm loving Casper! 'Think of the playground'?? What's wrong with being a friendly ghost?? Grin

5madthings · 04/11/2015 17:44

My nephew is caspar and the friendly ghost link is just not as issue. I don't think caspar the friendly ghost is a big thing anymore, my kids know of the films but have just shrugged at the connection.

BreeVDKamp · 04/11/2015 18:09

Yeah it's so not a big deal 5mad is it! Have added it to my list :)

Elbelle6 · 04/11/2015 20:27

I'm thinking Cornwall where I've met several. Not that I think it's an issue.

I know several Caspers but they are all dogs - sorry

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 04/11/2015 20:32

I like Merryn and Violet.

Sorry but I think Merlin is terrible. Love Oscar.

pilates · 04/11/2015 20:58

Willow Violet sounds nice and Quinn sounds like a boys name which I quite like.
