Alliterative names - good or bad?

MrsMichelRouxJr · 02/11/2015 13:06

We are due a DS in just a few weeks. DD is Naomi.

We like the name William for a boy, but our surname begins with W- baby boy's name will sound similar to William Wallace.

Firstly do you think Naomi and William sound ok together and secondly does the repetition of the 'W' sound work or does it sound silly?

Thank you!!

Naomi and William sound great together.

William W... Is generally ok, but I wouldn't have William Wilson, Wilmot etc, too repetitive

I think Naomi and William sound fine together.

Personally, I think alliterative names are fine (unless your surname name is Williams, in which case I'd say William Williams might be a bit much), but I know a few people who don't like them. My MIL told us very pointed when we were pregnant that she hoped we weren't going give an alliterative name and my DM didn't give me a first name she particularly liked as she it was alliterative. If you think alliterative names sound fine then go for it.

I know three sisters who all have SS as their initials...

Naomi and William are nice together. I don't generally like the alliterative thing but not a dealbreaker. If it is similar to William Wallace I don't like the repeated will/wall thing at all, it reminds me of a storybook character.

Thanks for all your replies!

Surname is closer to Warwick or Watson, I definitely wouldn't subject the poor boy to William Williams or similar name!

Any more opinions or suggestions welcome :)

I think that works fine.

I think the problem is the sound, not the letter.

Repetitive Wi Wi sounds like a cartoon character.

So,

William White, bad.
William Watson, fine.
