I like Etta and Adeline. I think of Laurel as a man's name.

shitebag · 19/10/2015 15:58

I like Bethan but I think Bethany flows better with the middle names.

CakeRattleandRoll · 19/10/2015 15:59

My favourite is Catrin.

StormyBlue · 19/10/2015 16:08

Adeline

FriendofBill · 19/10/2015 16:22

Adeline

helentheheron · 19/10/2015 16:43

I like them all but prefer Laura to Laurel.

Wafflenose · 19/10/2015 16:58

I like Laurel best, followed by Catrin. They all fit with the middle names.

Lunastarfish · 19/10/2015 17:07

Bethan

Sophronia · 19/10/2015 17:07

Adeline Cecilia Joan is lovely.

JanuaryJuniper · 19/10/2015 17:08

Etta or Adeline......fabulous!

putputput · 19/10/2015 17:42

Can I ask how most of you would automatically pronounce Adeline?
To rhyme with line or tin?

OP posts:
UmbongoUnchained · 19/10/2015 17:45

I love Etta!

AyeAmarok · 19/10/2015 18:06

I'd pause for thought, then pronounce it Add-eh-line.

Which I think sounds lovely Smile

Iwantakitchen · 19/10/2015 18:11

No to Laurel, it's not nice and is a boy's name.

The only name I like from your list is Bethan. But Bethany would sound better with a surname starting with S.

Sophronia · 19/10/2015 18:32

Adeline to rhyme with line.

MamaLazarou · 19/10/2015 18:32

Laurel is definitely a girls' name. Perhaps you are thinking of Stan Laurel?

JanuaryJuniper · 19/10/2015 18:32

I would pronounce it to rhyme with Line!

celtictoast · 19/10/2015 18:49
  1. Laurel
  2. Bethan
  3. Etta
  4. Adeline
  5. Catrin
mathanxiety · 19/10/2015 18:50

Adeline should be pronounced Adeleen imo.
I hate the -line pronunciation, as it reminds me of the barbershop song Sweet Adeline pronounced that way. When pronounced Adelin, it sounds like Madeleine that somehow lost its M.
I prefer Adelina (-leena) anyway -- does away with all confusion.

My favourite from your list is Laurel (very much a girl's name ime).
I like Etta too, but would be tempted to use Henrietta or Harriet on the BC.
I like Adelina but not Adeline.

I don't like Bethan or Catrin.
Catrin sounds to my Irish ear like a west of Ireland pronunciation of Catherine.
Bethan is a bit inelegant imo. I class it with Morag along with other names that are unnecessarily clunky.

ashesandfire · 19/10/2015 19:19

I love Etta. I like Laurel and like Sorrel even more? Really like Bethan though prefer Bethany (I am biased though), but that definitely is girlier.
Catrin is OK. I far far prefer Adelaide and Madeleine to Adeline, which I would pn to rhyme with line.

Tangoandcreditcards · 19/10/2015 19:25

Etta was high on my list. Not DP's, sadly.

Adeline second.

CityDweller · 19/10/2015 21:48

I would pronounce Adeline as Ad-a-line. However, I work with one who recently corrected me after I'd been saying it like that for months - apparently it's Ad-a-leen.

Which to me is a reason to avoid the name, lovely as it is, as nothing more tedious than a lifetime of correcting pronunciation.
