Is Hugo a bit tacky now?

Hello all, DP and I have finally found a boy's name we both love (why are boy names so difficult?!) but I'm a little unsure as to whether there are an awful lot of Hugos around now?

Have heard of a few here and there and as much as we love the name I don't really want to choose anything that's really overdone and we're going to hear all the time from other parents. What do you think?

We've also thought of Hugh as a potential alternative but DP isn't as keen - he thinks it's an older man's name rather than something he can imagine calling a little boy. Opinions please, so far it's the only boy's name we've managed to agree on.

we have a hugh. its always been a great name and suited him at all ages. huw is actually pronounced slightly differently to hugh - or at least if you are welsh you would. he likes his name and has the benfit of not being popular - so no hugh + surname, but not wayout odd. husband would have vetoed hugo as being too posh, but then husband is a bit ruff!

According to the latest statistics, from the Office of National Statistics, in 2014
.
Hugo was the 70th most popular boys' name (956 boys were called Hugo).
Hugh was the 352nd most popular boys" name (121 boys were called Hugh).

I hope that helps. Smile

I like it. It does scream "posh" but I know one who isn't particularly posh and it suits him. It reminds me in style of "Geoffrey"
