Asher Zane

I've posted recently about struggling to find a middle name that honours family but also goes with my preferred first name. Zane is somewhat of a stretch (rhymes with BIL's name, plus is alternative version of John which my dad's name is also an alternative version of). And I quite like it as a name in its own right. However, I'm plagued with insomnia, hormones and other pregnancy-related complaints so struggling to make sensible judgements.... So what do you think of Asher Zane?

What do you mean by honours family? I think if you want to honour your father you should just pick John. I think using Zane to honour your dad is a bit of a tenuous stretch.

I dislike Zane but if you like it just have it.

LeaveMyWingsBehindMe · 14/10/2015 05:35

Oh so your dad isn't even join? So it's even more of a tenuous stretch? Confused

I don't really like either name, but Asher Zane sounds OK to me. I don't think that it can really be said to honour either your father or BIL though.

Asher John sounds fine, although it depends on your surname I guess. However from your OP I'm guessing that your father's name is more like Ivan, Ian or Sean? I'm not sure Zane is a form of John anyway, Behind the Name has it as originating from a surname.

Jane Asher.

I'm sorry O.P but when I said it out loud it sounded like a chemical/cleaning product if said quickly asherzane.
That is just my opinion though so ignore me if it suits! :)

Every teenage girl will ask if he was named after that one in one direction...

Only1scoop · 14/10/2015 09:25

Is it for a boy?

Either way I'm not a fan

"De scale that drain with super wizzo Asher Zane"
Think it sound a bit American fill in commercial.

Sorry

We know an Asher, and every time the name is said my husband says 'Bless You'.

Laliberty · 14/10/2015 09:41

Thanks everyone. I'm happy with Asher as a first name, but it appears that my exhaustion/hormones/stress have let me down with Zane. Back to the drawing board for middle names... But on the plus side if I ever decide to launch a cleaning product I'm sorted! Grin

Asher is lovely. If you want to honour family go for Asher + dad's name. You don't have to honour family though! I love my family but I'm not keen on their names... I can show my love in other ways!

MrsLeighHalfpenny · 14/10/2015 13:41

Since when has Zane been a form of John?

I don't like it, but if you do, call him Zane. But he won't be named for anyone with any form of John as a name. If you want to name him after someone called John, name him John (or Jack, or Sean or whatever), but not Zane,

Laliberty · 14/10/2015 17:17

MrsLeigh Got the John (although now I see its Jon) connection from here: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zane

I love the name Zane, but not keen on Asher. With regards to honouring members of the family, if you are going to do this then I think you really need to use the actual name (or it kind of says 'we wanted to honor you but didn't like your name!') But, do you NEED to honor a family member if you actually just want to call your child Asher Zane?
