A sibling for David

Really struggling for ideas. Have thankfully got 6 months to come up with something. I quite like:
Daisy
Maisie (but DH not keen)
Marjorie

for a girl.

And
Luke
Jacob
Jack

for a boy.

We generally like names that have a bit of flexibility in them for a nickname, I know some of the examples I've given don't really reflect that. Quite a few names that were on our shortlist last time have been used by close friends/family so we're kind of back to square one.

David has a really different feel to any of the names you've mentioned, I think.

However I like

David and Maisie

Or David and Jacob. (I like Luke too, but Jack is most popular name for two decades, and David quite unusual for last two decades)

Not David and Daisy, they don't go, and I think Marjorie is a bit wet.

Goliath.

SionnachDana · 13/10/2015 16:23

Naomi or Susan, or Rachel

SionnachDana · 13/10/2015 16:23

Or if it's a boy, Peter or Richard

RiverTam · 13/10/2015 16:25

Jonathan. When I was at school every David seemed to have a brother called Jonathan.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 13/10/2015 16:25

Yes I think names like Rachel, Peter, Richard.

Or Andrew, Christopher, Steven, Robert.

LettuceLaughton · 13/10/2015 16:25

David and Stephen

Sophronia · 13/10/2015 16:28

From your list I like Marjorie and Luke best with David.

Daffodil1210 · 13/10/2015 16:41

I think you need a strong, classic name with David (think e.g. Eleanor, Charlotte; Harriet; Beatrice; Annabelle for girls, or e.g. Edward, William, Timothy; Oliver; Tobias for boys) and the girls names you've mentioned seem a bit "flowery" IYSWIM.

Personally I'd avoid a name that starts with a D, for the risk of it sounding a bit twee.

Thanks for the suggestions! Funnily enough David is a family name and I actually have a pair of brothers named David and Stephen already in my family!
I like Charlotte will add that one. Not so keen on Susan it sounds too prim to me.

RiverTam · 14/10/2015 20:24

I'm a Susan. Definitely not prim. Or proper Wink. I am over 40 which for me is the downside of it, very popular in the 60s and 70s so it feels kind of ageing.

fakenamefornow · 14/10/2015 20:30

No suggestions but what a lovely, simple and underused name David is.

BeanIontach · 14/10/2015 23:46

I think susan is less age specific than suzanne. Mught be just an impression but my cousins dd a susan. She is 6. Then i know susans up tov60
But suzanne more dated.

Ipushedmygrannyaffabus · 15/10/2015 01:47

I think David goes well with
Jacob
Caleb
Alistair

Caroline
Susannah
Amber

Yika · 15/10/2015 19:37

Hugh
Adam
Marcus

Rosamund

Jacqueline
Bridget
Jessica
Meredith
Chloé

twinjocks · 15/10/2015 22:46

Julie (that's my name, and my brother is David!!). But I know MN doesn't like Julie, only Julia!!!!

noisytoys · 15/10/2015 22:53

My brothers are David and Stuart and my fiancé is David with brother Richard and they all go well together. David isn't as popular now but of people my age every 2nd person seems to be called Dave.

Yika · 16/10/2015 19:12

I think Julie is a pretty name and due a comeback. Very popular in French speaking countries at the moment. I always think of Julie Christie.

katienana · 16/10/2015 19:35

Loads of fab suggestions! I think I need to get over the fact that a lot of names have been used by family, especially the boys names. I wouldn't use a niece or nephews name but I think my cousins kids that I have nothing to do with are fair game (puts Thomas, Arthur and a few others back on the table).
I like Chloe, Alice and could get on board with meredith though I can't see dh liking it.
I also like Marigold from Downton Abbey.
Boys I like Rory a lot. It sounds like a fun cheeky little boy and then a sporty adult.
