Brother for Isadora?

mammabear4 · 11/10/2015 23:25

I posted a previous thread about whether Isadora and Theodore (our current favourite boy's name) were too samey - the general consensus seems to be YES - DD gets the nn Dora and Theodore would be Teddy but we're not keen on any other longer names for Teddy (Edmund, Thaddeus etc)

So... Any other boy name suggestions to go with Isadora (Dora)?? We've hit a bit of a brick wall here!

You don't like Edward for Teddy?

Other names you might like that I think are in the same vein:

Nathaniel (Nat)
Dominic (Dom - I think Dora & Dom sounds adorable!)
Sebastian (Seb/Bastian/Bas)
Bennett (Ben)
Everett (Ever)

Thomas (Tom)

No Laliberty Edward's out as one of my close friends has an Edward!

Peter
Julian
Benedict
Reuben
Tristan
Elias
George

I like Laurence, Benedict and George out of that list! I do quite like longer names that can be shortened to something sweet.

My first thought was Lawrence (Lawrie) - now trying to think of one that hasn't been suggested.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 12/10/2015 17:10

Cal(l)um - Cal
Christopher - Chris, Kit
Jonathan - Jon, Jonny, Jonty (warning: the latter gets mixed reception on MN).
Edwin instead of Edward or Edmund?

reuset · 12/10/2015 19:41

Duncan sprang to mind Silly reuset. That wont do at all.

More sensibly, I hope. Lucian, Laurence

I know an Isadora (also known as Dora). Her brothers are Milo, Rafferty and Caspian.

CremeEggThief · 12/10/2015 22:05

What about Edgar, if you're keen on Teddy? I only know one, who is 7 or 8.

Finallyonboard · 12/10/2015 22:09

Sebastian.

Ikeameatballs · 12/10/2015 22:30

Albert
Percy
Philip (Pip)

It's so difficult Confused I have a million girl names that I love but no boy names are jumping out at me at all! I kind of like Rafferty and Caspian, really not keen on Edwin or Edgar or any other "Ed" name really which puts Teddy out. Unless I just went for Theodore and thought sod it!

Ted/ Teddy are legitimate abbreviations for Theodore (think Theodore Roosevelt!). I like them a lot, but don't like the nn Theo, which has put me off using Theodore for DS

mammabear4 · 16/10/2015 09:02

CityDweller I know and that's my definite favourite but there just seems to be a general opinion that Isadora and Theodore sound silly together as a sibset! And other than Theodore I'm just not in love with any boys names. Feel really at a loss :(

CityDweller · 16/10/2015 10:22

Ah I see I missed the point! Hmm, they do sound a bit... rhyming...

But, I say fuck it! If you love the name...

changename54 · 16/10/2015 10:50

So you want your DCs to be called Dora and Teddy, but you think Theodore is too close to Isadora, plus if you call him Theodore it might get shortened to Theo which you don't like?

I think these are your options:

  1. Just call him Teddy; don't give him a longer name.
  1. Tell your friend with the son called Edward that your DS will be christened Edward but you have no intention of using it and he'll always be called Teddy.
  1. Choose another name which could shorten to Teddy. I love Edmund. There's also Edison, Edgar, Edwin, Tudor, Everard, Everett.
  1. Choose any other name at all but just start calling him Teddy. Nicknames don't have to have any link with the chosen name. I think you could easily get away with Frederick (Freddie/Teddy), Winston (Winnie the Pooh) or Rupert (Bear).
  1. Choose any names with the initials TD e.g. Thomas David or better still TED Thomas Eric Daniel.

My Isadora's dad is Theodore, known as Teddy... I liked Gabriel or Louis for a brother if we'd had another...

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 16/10/2015 18:11

Are you likely to ever refer to them as Isadora and Theodore? For example, would you sign a Christmas card as MammaBear, DH, Isadora and Theodore, or as MammaBear, DH, Dora and Teddy?

SummerMonths · 19/10/2015 13:20

I agree that it's odd to have two "--dore/dora" names. Your DS may not want to be Teddy yet wouldn't be able to use his full name.

I love Isadora. What about:

Inigo
Maxim
Lawrence
Hector
Caspian
Rory

CelestiaLuna · 20/10/2015 14:37

How about Thaddeus for nn Teddy?

Oysterbabe · 20/10/2015 19:00

Just call him Ted. I know two babies called Ted, not a short version of anthing else.
