Lucienne/Lucie?

Hi all, first-ever post. Husband and I can't agree on a girls' name - I keep circling back to Lucienne, with Lucie for short, but he just isn't a fan. Thoughts? Alternatives? He likes Camille with 'Milly' for short but I'm concerned Milly is a bit overdone.

I think I would hear Lucian. Why not avoid a life a spelling out the name and use Lucy?

LittleCandle · 11/10/2015 08:32

Why not go for something really radical like... Jane, Susan, Caroline, Lesley, Valerie, Sally. These names are uncommon now, but are easy to spell and nice. Pet names and nicknames evolve with the child, so why are you concerned about creating a pet name before the child is even born?

Parpaltunnel · 11/10/2015 08:44

Maybe it's because I'm in Australia, but Leslie and Valerie connote middle-aged women to me. Not old enough to be sweet yet, and too old to be appropriate for a baby...

That's my main concern, actually! Had been telling myself it would be the same for a little girl called Frances, though.

Lucienne sounds like a made up name to me. Lucie is nice, I really like that spelling.

Marcipex · 11/10/2015 12:03

I think Lucy and Lucie are both nice.

I do know a Lucienne aged 6ish, it does sound like Lucian.

PallasCat · 11/10/2015 12:45

I like Lucienne - really nice. Camille is nice too. You're both going for French-influenced names, so if you're struggling to pick from these two, I'd look at other French names for other ideas.

Most MN posters seem obsessed with this.

I like Lucy, and Lucie, and Camille.
I think Lucienne sounds made up, and I think Milly is the most atrocious, graceless contraction of an elegant name.

celtictoast · 11/10/2015 15:03

Does Lucienne sound like Loo-chee-enn or Lucy-enn?

FreddoFrog · 11/10/2015 15:04

Lucia nickname Lucy?

BriocheBriocheBrioche · 11/10/2015 15:08

Lucille?

scatterthenuns · 11/10/2015 15:23

The Camille I know uses Milla - is this any better?

Finola1step · 11/10/2015 15:26

Lucia or Lucille.

Parpaltunnel · 11/10/2015 19:18

This is really interesting feedback, thanks to all - it hadn't occurred to me that Lucienne might sound like a made-up name, and that's always been one of my anxieties about my own (unusual, Scandinavian) name. Do NOT wish to saddle any daughter of mine with that burden. Lots of excellent food for thought.

Also I love Milla as a nn! Could be onto something...

How about Lucinda, shortened to Lucie?
I do like Lucienne, although it sounds a little like Lucian to me as well.
I love Camille but I really don't like Milly.

How about Lucinda, Lucia, Camilla?

Or just Lucy which is lovely in itself Smile

RidingSixWhiteHorses · 12/10/2015 21:22

I like Lucienne a lot. Also Vivienne.

RidingSixWhiteHorses · 12/10/2015 21:31

RidingSixWhiteHorses · 12/10/2015 21:31

oops sorry posted twice

Parpaltunnel · 13/10/2015 02:55

Ooh, Vivienne is another goody. Adding that to the shortlist - thanks riding!
