What do you think of "Patrick James Cook"?

I came up with the name Patrick for our second little boy when I Was about six months pregnant; after looking though a baby names book. My Granny was called Patricia and I was very close to her & I felt Patrick was the male version of her name. However, I've been worried about the name as I'm now thinking there is a chane it could be shortened to Pat, Paddy or even Patch. All of which I seriously don't like. Even my Granny was called Pat!

We have also considered the name George because; if baby had been a little girl, I'd have call her Georgina & Georgie for short. However, this also concerns me as there is a chance we may have a third baby and if we were to hit the Jack pot and have a little girl - I'd go for Georgina!

Now stressed out with naming our little boy who is now three weeks old & is the un- named soldier!

Hope you might be able to help! Many thanks, Ruth

Gorgeous baby. I wouldn't call him Patrick if you hate the shortenings. It's possible it won't be shortened, but more probable it will be. The two Patrick friends of my DSes are called Paddy and Patsy Shock, much to the horror of their parents. Personally I love Patrick nn Paddy, and would have considered it but it doesn't go with our last name.

James Cook is fine as long as he never wants to live in Australia. Cook is such a national figure there that he'd spend his life being called 'Captain'.

I'm trying to think of a British equivalent but getting nowhere.

My DS1 is Patrick John. I always call him Patrick or PJ, but at 19 he is Paddy to all his friends. I hate it!

Thank you very much ladies! All very helpful.... To be honest I like names like "Archie" & for a more off-the-wall different name - I like "Lester" but my husband doesn't like those names at all! Gosh it is so difficult!!!! Thank again for your input! It brilliant! :-) xxx

Patrick is a lovely name IMO and underused.

Your little boy is gorgeous, congratulations Flowers

I am going to buck the trend and say that George is better with Cook, and can't be messed with. If you don't have an Irish connection I would find it strange to use Patrick. I also think Patrick runs into Cook. I would even suggest George Patrick Cook as the middle name won't be said too often. I wouldn't put off using a name because of what ifs. Congratulations! Patrick Jared Cook.

Patrick Jared was my chosen name for a boy, if I'd had one. I don't share that lightly.

Feeling rather anxious..... Maybe it's my hormones but feeling regretful and a little stressed and tearful :-(

My husband wanted to register our DS on Monday and I'd brought the date forward from the 2nd Nov to Oct 19th to encourage us to make a decision, albeit I was prepared to postpone it! But my husband didn't want to.

We named our darling little baby boy "George Patrick Cook" and on the way home the fairground was in our local town so we decided to take our other DS "Jack" to see it and sample a few of the little rides. Whilst we were there we bumped into three other children by the name of "George" all in the space of 30 minutes! I was left feeling Oh NO!!!! "We've made a mistake......:-( Although it's silly, I feel quite stressed and don't know what do as my husband and I can't agree on any other name, I feel I've gone for my second and third choice as my husband wont let me use the name I really like "Archie" Feeling like I need a hug and a kick up the bottom and or for someone to say..."It's your hormones everything is going to be fine with the name "George" Or suggest what I should do...Thanks in advance of your ears and suggestions ladies xxxx

George is very popular of course, but a fine name. I prefer George to Archie

I like James Cook more than Patrick as the first name, but haven't read the whole thread.
