Girl's alternative to Mike/Michael?

We are wanting to honour DH's grandfather who's name is Mike but we have a strong feeling this baby will be a girl.

Are there any other alternatives other than Michelle (which I hate) and Michaela?? It will be a middle name, not first name.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I quite like Micheline. I didn't know Michaela could be pronounced 'kye-la' actually!

and part of me knows that its a middle name so it doesn't really matter if we like it much, its the reason behind it etc but I still don't want to cringe everytime I say it!!

Micaiah has potential too.

Wasn't there a teen-film, about a young couple. She was called 'Micah'
But she may have been German?

They had a lovey-dovey summer, then left for college. It was the same college, but girls/boys were split for rooms. When they got there, they were sharing a room as she spelled her name MIKE. They assumed she was a boy.

Micah. Spelled as mike. (Probably cause confusion all her life...)

I like the idea of Michael for a girl but maybe a more girly looking spelling?

Micky

Mikey

WhycantIuse - you're thinking of EuroTrip!!

She's called Mieke. In the film she's German but I'm not sure whether it's actually a German name (could be Dutch?)

Mieke is pronounced "Mee-ka" Smile

Tfoot75 · 10/10/2015 12:29

I think Maike (pronounced Mike-ah) is a German girls name (at least I have known one)

Hufflepuffin · 10/10/2015 14:19

I think I would go with Micha in your shoes, it's obviously an honour name but a bit female and she can decide herself whether to pronounce it meeka or Mike-a. I know it's technically a boy name but that doesn't seem to matter any more!

Sophronia · 10/10/2015 18:24

Yes Maike or Meike "my-ka" is a German name.

My daughter's middle name is Mickie in honour of her grandad Michael, I think it's cute / feminine (DH hates it but heyho...)

CelestiaLuna · 11/10/2015 14:51

Marcheline?

WhyCantIuseTheNameIWant · 11/10/2015 16:03

Yes, I think that was the one!

Mihaela (mee-hi-ella)
Ella
Mika

Michaela with the Mi-kye-la pronunciation is the usual one where I am.

You could even shorten it to Kyla.

There is also an Italian name Michela - Mee-KEL-la and the Polish Michalina (Mi-khal-EE-na)..

Would Mila be too far off target?
